The Terrifics #27. Written by Gene Luen Yang. Art by Sergio Davila and Vicente Cifuentes. With the pause in publishing I am having a hard time remembering what happened in the titles I still read. In this one... Simon Stagg has gone missing. Captured by an underground creature. Mr Terrific assembles additional support. The Terrific Council! Blue Beetle. The Atom. Man-Bat. The Strongs. So they do find Simon and rescue him but things go horribly wrong on the last page. I have loved the Silver Age feel of this title since issue #1. I know it ends with #30. But honestly in today's market that is quite a success. Yang is giving us a great arc to end this series. I really loved seeing Beetle, Atom & Man-Bat. Overall another good issue in a great series that has a Silver Age feel to the story & art. 7/10.
I've fallen behind, but have always enjoyed this series.
I'm sorry to see it pass.

I did not realize Russell was writing a Batman book. I’ll have to look for it. He wrote the previous two issue as well, but as they were more run of the mill Batman stories I didn't realize it was THAT Russell while reading them or even as I typed out his name to do the reviews. It wasn't until this story, which definitely felt like his voice that I realized it was him and at first I thought he was a one off but as I looked back I saw he wrote those too. They're all digital at this point and only a buck a piece so they're priced right, though I think I read somewhere(maybe from @mrp ?) that these digital offerings first appeared in those DC Giants from earlier in the year so if so you could possibly get them in print there if that's your druthers. Russell has been the writer on the lead Batman story in the relaunched Batman Giant (i.e. the series available in the direct market and WalMart not the Walmart exclusive first series) the past few issues. Each giant has 2 original stories, then 3 reprint stories (right now it's Snyder's Batman, Rebirth Nightwing, and a Batgirl series-new52 I think). However, a bunch of the Giants were just cancelled by DC in the wake of the shutdown and relaunch of the industry, so who knows what the future holds for these and if they will continue. -M

So far he's been in #4-6.

Issue #1 and #2 had a lead story that was by Michael Grey (which according to Bleeding Cool is a pen name and the real identity is unknown, ow much credence should be given Bleeding Cool on this is debatable) with art by Ryan Benjamin.
The second original story in #1 features Batowman was by Steve Orlando and Tom Mandrake, #2 features the Signal and was by Andrea Shea & Neal Edwards.
#3, 4, and 5 have Russell doing the lead story with the same art team of Benjamin/Friend.
#3's second story was by Frank Tieri & Scot Eaton and is a Batman story #4's second story was by Steve Orlando and Tom Lyle (which must have been one of the last stories he worked on) and is a Nightwing story #5's second story was by Mark Russell & Chris Monneyham and is a Joker story
and one correction frommy earlier post, it's not Btgirl but the Rucka/J.H. Williams run of Batwomanform Detective that is the third reprint in the series. New52 Batgirl was one of the back-ups in the first Batman Giant series that was Walmart exclusive.
So there have been 4 Russell stories so far. $5 was the most recent released (though I don't think it has been released in the direct market yet, just through Walmart as they get books weeks ahead of the direct market release).

What was the fourth about? I also wonder if we'll get those other features here? The first issue had the Batwoman story set in Afghanistan and the story by Brad Meltzer and Staff Sgt. Sal Giunta juxtaposing the real life Medal of Honor speech with the exploits of Batman. And issues three and four had the stories by Gray.

I am not sure what the stories in #4 and 5 were about, I don't have those issues yet, as Direct Market releases got delayed and I didn't pick them up at Walmart. I looked up their contents on the GCD, which has them indexed already; I am assuming form the Walmart editions that were released. -M
