I could have sworn we had an Agents thread, but I can't find it
Anyway, Agents returns to ABC for series 7 on May 27th, back in time around the formation of SHIELD, and crossing over (to some extent) with the world of Agent Carter (albeit without Hayley Atwell, unless she comes in as a surprise later)

Thank C'thulhu for DVRs that remember their old programming! I had forgotten about the show's premiere, but it's safely in the can.

I thought it was alright, but nothing special - but they do have a tendency to start slow and get better. It's not helped by the Cronocoms (sp?) being pretty duff villains

I finally got to see the second season and while I didn't love every plot turn (another SHIELD? more double agents??) I still enjoyed it overall. My favorite element by far was Kyle McLachlan as Skye's father Cal, a man who has some...aggression issues. {Spoiler: Click to show}
His comic book counterpart is Mister Hyde. Far more sympathetic than his comics version, I actually found myself liking him a lot! I just hoped for more "names" when he was putting together his own team. The only one I recognized was {Spoiler: Click to show}
David Angar, the Screamer. I also really loved Adrianne Palicki as Agent Barbara Morse. I was not previously familiar with this actress. |

Only two episodes left for me in the final season.
I'll miss this show! It's had such an oddly meandering direction, plotwise... Initially, it didn't seem to find its footing; it was somewhat fun, with somewhat attaching characters, but it also felt a little forced (forced as in "well, we have to exploit the nascent MCU franchise in as many ways as we can, so here's this TV show and we have to make it work somehow"). It included a few references to the Marvel Universe (Absorbing Man, Deathlok, Hydra), genre-accepted tropes and twists, and some cross-franchise stuff (Sif from the Thor movies, references to the events from The Winter Soldier, and eventually the Inhumans as a way to promote the agenda of turning them into the equivalent of the X-Men). The first season was all right, but neither a true super-hero show nor a proper spy thriller. I couldn't decide who its target audience was, since it hadn't yet grown its own.
Nevertheless, the stories were entertaining enough to get me to tune in from time to time and get to appreciate how the chemistry between the characters seemed to work better and better. Remember the cast of Deep Space 9? It was sort of like that; at the end of that show, I'd have been content to just watch an hour of Quark arguing with Odo.
Then came the longer arcs, and each of them seemed to actually get better with time. Quasi-mystical stuff with Ghost Rider and the Darkhold, more Inhuman/mutant/genetic exploitation business, a serious LMD crisis... and I just kept coming back, starting to root for these guys. The hard outer-space twist that occurred a few seasons ago was not to everyone's taste, but I thought that while it certainly strayed far from the comics' version of SHIELD, it sure made for a more interesting TV show!
And now for the final season, we have another staple of the genre: time travel. I loved the way episodes set in those eras spoofed movies or TV shows from the '40s, '50s, '60s, '70s and '80s... especially the black and white one.
I don't know if my impression is accurate, but it really feels as if several characters were meant to be there for just a few episodes and were just so much fun that the writers just couldn't let them go. Yo-yo, Mac, Deke and Koenig were all great and Enoch was an absolute riot. (Ditto Bobbi Morse and Hunter, but those two were so popular that they were sent away to feature in a spin-off that ended up not being produced).
That show never jumped the shark. Here's hoping it won't blow it at the last second!
