Yeah, the details are pretty shocking. When I first read it on newsarama there weren't any details on how it would be done or what titles...this seems like a total waste.

Out of curiousity, has Mr. Hibbs ever taken a principled stand before and gotten a positive result, either for his store or for other walk-in stores like his?
I do a lot of my shopping by mail-order. It's why I rate Midtown highly in that respect.

Yes. He sued Marvel, had others join as a class action suit, and was in a strong enough position that they settled and changed their practices. Here's a little more on it... ICV2 articleHere's the precis of the nature of the suit... -M

And now news hits that these two distributors are allocating copies of the 2nd printing of Nightwing #70, which begs the question, how many will they keep for their own retail businesses and how many will they make available to other retailers. This kind of conflict of interest is exactly what a lot of folks were worried about with major big discount retailers becoming distributors.
There is also a bit of a question of the printings on everything they are releasing, as supposedly, most of the books in the first 2-3 weeks of their shipping had already been printed and shipped to Diamond before the shut down of their printers and Diamond, and DC went back to press with their new printed to get books to DCBS and Midtown, so technically all the new books they are releasing are actually 2nd prints as the first prints are sitting in Diamond warehouses waiting for Diamond to open up and distribute them. Not a big deal to me, but it is a collectibles market as much as a readers market and this could cause just a little chaos in the collector's market (makes popcorn and waits for ebay wars and outrageous prices on these books inthe speculator's market).

Just curious.. why is Nightwing 70 expensive? I see on ebay it's running at $10-15 for the 1st print... is it just that it's a new story line? THe cover?

People mistakingly thought it would include the new character Punchline, just because a synopsis was used with the word. It was selling for $35-$50 a few weeks ago. Speculators get to suck salt on this one.

I knew it had something to do with Punchline but I didn't know what exactly. Thanks for the clarification. -M

Speaking about distribution, I've heard Jim Lee say Batman 92 has 230000 copies....

Punchline, huh? Well, I guess that's a speculator thing to do... if you can get in before it spirals and crashes, that works.
I'd think people would oh, you know, see if the new character is interesting first before paying extra for them? Guess not.

I’m primarily digital but I still like going on occasion so it’s sad. Plus as an aside I get leery when people throw around sjw so casually. I’ve seen way to many bigots do that

Not sure what my LCS' plans are moving forward (our county is still on the "Do Not Open Until..." list), but I was able to stop by two weekends ago and get three Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collections plus the contents of my pull list (which, admittedly, was only X-Men #9 and the facsimile edition of Incredible Hulk #182).
I've been looking at some other books I might want to get, mostly collected editions, to send to the owner to see if he has them, and if so, I will pick them up. When I talked to him while I was getting those books above, he said he is still doing online business, only making about 15%-20% of what he normally does but it is covering the expenses for the shop, so he is in OK shape right now.

I'm glad I can rely on Midtown for new books, they've been my go-to store for back-up copies for several years. The recent sale has been useful, my dealer gets requests for certain books he's run out of stock from (esp the last 13-15 issues of Spidey) so it wasn't hard to put together an order to meet the minimum free shipping quota. If books take a bit longer to arrive, that's ok, it's perfectly understandable and I appreciate that they're still making an effort to keep the business running.
