Lois Lane #4Written by Greg Rucka Art by Mike Perkins Summary: Jon tells his mother he's leaving to join the Legion and Renee sits down with the original Question. Plot: I've been loving this series from the start, but despite the great character work we got here with Jon and Lois this issue felt like a whole lot of filler to me. Instead of digging further into the mystery of why reporters are being killed and what the conspiracy is that got them killed is we got a lot of talking heads and set up for stories taking place elsewhere like Bendis' Legion and Leviathan stories and since I have less than zero interest in either of those it was frustrating to see the book hijacked in favor of tying into those other stories. About the only point of interest was the hint that Convergence is apparently back in play as an explanation into the reappearance of the Pre-Flashpoint Vic Sage, as Lois implied that he made the journey with her and Clark...which is odd because I liked the fix that made it so her and Clark were always "here" and not from the past continuity but we'll see how it goes. Art: Perkins didn't have a whole lot to do here and his character work is still a little off, I didn't confuse Lois and Renee like last issue but instead we get a Jon Kent who looks to be in his late 20's instead on a kid in his late teens making the scenes with him and Lois look pretty odd. Grade:6/10

The Black Terror #1. Written by Max Bemis. Art by Matt Gaudio. In August a slightly different version of Project: Super Powers Daredevil was published written by Gail Simone. This week the Black Terror gets the same treatment. This isn't the Black Terror that was stuck in the urn since the 40's depicted in the P:SP series. USA in the 1970's. Pharmacist Bob Benton has a boring life. He is using Valium to control his urges to fight crime. He finally snaps and becomes a violent vigilante again. However one of his enemies from the 40's had formed an organization that is threatened by his "return". One of Benton's co-workers is part of that organization observing him. I liked this story and concept by Bemis. The art is cartoony and I actually prefer the "normal" people and find his Black Terror too "distorted" looking. 7/10. I am glad to see Dynamite using these characters.

The Immortal Hulk #24. Written by Al Ewing. Art by Joe Bennett. The Hulk finally stops Shadow Base in a violent gruesome battle. And I didn't see the ending coming... Ewing keeps changing things enough to keep the underlying horror effect going. Bennett's art is still outstanding and gives me nightmares. 8/10.

Daredevil #12. Written by Chip Zdarsky. Art by Marco Checchetto. Matt Murdock tries to live a life without his DD ID. Meanwhile a copy cat Daredevil is captured by corrupt cops. Foggy helps Matt protect the copy cat DD and they all end up rescued by Electra. She offers Matt a way back to becoming DD again. Meanwhile Fisk has an emotional breakdown and is in danger of losing his role as Mayor of NYC. Finally Zdarsky gets Matt back on the road to becoming DD again. And Fisk shows his real personality... 8/10.

8/10. I'm still not sure about the whole green door world, and there wasn't any real feeling of catharsis with the defeat of Fortean because he never came across as a fully actualized character but i love the development of Hulk being in control of Shadow Base. I don't know what Ewing's plans are with that but it's definitely a great twist full of possibilities. And while I loved Bennett's work like always I think my favorite bit was by far that cover by Ross. I'd love a poster sized print of the Hulk squeezing the world! Grade:8/10 I almost picked up the Immortal Hulk tie in to Carnage but then I thought...I really hate Carnage and generally dislike events so why support it?

Return to Vader's Castle #1Written by Cavan Scott Art by Francesco Francavilla and Megan Levans Summary: Join Vader's majordomo, Vaneé, as he tells horror stories to a captured Rebel soldier trapped in a cell at Castle Vader Plot: While last year's Castle Vader was indeed uneven I still love the idea of a Halloween themed Star Wars book and I have to say I'm glad I picked this up. Though the main story of Darth Maul luring a group of salvagers to the junk planet he was stuck on wasn't the greatest I loved the framing narrative with Vaneé. Instead of random rebels telling each other their scariest stories for no real reason like last time Scott uses Darth Vader's majordomo from Rogue One, Vaneé , in the role of narrator similar to the old EC horror books and with his robed figure and pale haunted visage it's a role he was born to play. While not exactly thrilling the main plot itself plays into that old EC kind of feel as well as the greed of one of the salvagers is what ends up trapping him with Maul in the end giving us that grizzly morality play, but it was a little too thinly built up to have any real impact, but still it was entertaining enough on its own. Art: Francavilla's art is one of the big reasons I picked this up, though the stories told may be hit or miss his art in the framing narratives will no doubt be top notch like they were here. For the life of me I don't understand how this guy doesn't get more work, his use of shadow and color is just out of this world. Grade:6/10

Bizarre Adventures #1 Summary: An anniversary issue celebrating one of Marvel's greatest anthology books. Meat: I'll say this again, I love anthology books and I truly wish there were more being put out than there are and this is a great example why. Sure, I didn't care for the Shang-Chi feature, or the Black Goliath short at the end but I still enjoy that they're getting page time because it means that someone who might enjoy those kinds of stories is getting them when they other wise wouldn't be as that fan population might not be large enough to support a full book...and it's probably the same for the stories I enjoyed featuring Bloodstone and Dracula, I loved them but neither one could sell a book. It's just a one off anniversary book so I wasn't expecting much but there was some great talent here so hopefully this kind of thing catches on. Grade:10/10

I think I'm dropping Lemire's Berserker Unbound, after three issues it just doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Deodato's art is great, but I need more than that to keep me interested.
