It's that oh so spooky and collectible time of year when General Mills rolls out the monster cereals. Growing up you could find these on the grocery store shelf every week but in these declining sales years the cereals have become seasonal sellers for the most part. I do remember my mom buying these for us kids regularly and I always liked Count Chocula and the syrupy chocolate milk it left behind. Also I remember the cartoon commercials of the monsters fighting over which of their cereals was the best. Last year I picked up a box of Frankenberry and was barely able to choke down a bowl of it, sooo sweet and the taste was a bit off and strange. Thinking this year to try a box of Boo Berry and seeing how horrendously tasting it may be.
So what are your remembrances of these cereal monsters and which was (if ever) your favorite?

Frankenberry ... it was associated taking care of my two nieces in my last three years living at my Parents place and we gone through 2 boxes of that cereal on a weekly basis. Personally, I don't each any of those cereal because of the high sugar content.

Ugh, I could never stomach any of them. I had plenty of sugary cereals, as a kid; but, those and the whole Super Sugar Crisp and Sugar Smacks were just horrible.

I generally avoid sugary cereals (I'm more a Grape Nuts kinda guy) but if I *had* to eat one of the above, I'd choose Count Chocula (though I'd rather have Cocoa Puffs, Cocoa Krispies or Chocolate Cheerios, all better tasting than the Count).
Cei-U! I summon the lesser of six evils!

Cei-U! I summon the lesser of six evils! With you on avoiding the sugary stuff! Mostly Corn Flakes, Corn/Wheat Chex, Grape Nuts/Flakes, Raisin Bran these days. Occasional craving for Corn Pops, Captain Crunch and Frosted Flakes due mostly from memories of childhood. With 3 boys it was the sugar sweet stuff for how my mom could afford in cheaply feeding us boys for school mornings back in the 60's and 70's.

We almost never got these kinds of cereals but I know I somehow managed a box of the big three, and I think had Chocula more than once. I'm going to vote Frankenberry however because the box of that I'd got had a mask cut-out on the back! I didn't even know there was a Mummy one. Canada didn't have some cereals; I never saw and Flintstones or Cocoa Puffs on the shelf, no Trix either (smuggled one box of that in however, and it had a three pronged boomerang toy with it). Our Kellogg's Froot Loops had a turtle on it, no Toucan Sam!

To be fair, the recipes for each of these serials have changed drastically over the decades. I LOVED Frankenberry as a kid, but it's a totally different cereal now. Never cared as much for the others.

Never cared as much for the others. This is true, they aren't the same. But I have also noticed that I just can't stomach the amount of sweetness that I used to could. I've really noticed this with soda. When I was a kid I loved Tahitian Treat, which was a fruit punch soda. Granted, for medical reasons I've cut out almost all sodas except diet (I primarily drink unsweetened iced tea when eating out), but when I tried it again for nostalgia a couple years ago, it was so sweet I couldn't drink it at all. But back on topic, Frankenberry was my choice as a kid, though Boo Berry and the Count were a close tie for second.

I was past my sugary-cereal-craving years when these came out, so I'm not sure I've ever tasted one.
I do remember the duel to the death between Quisp and Quake, and my father was really good at Cap'n Crunch's voice.

Yeah, there's a box of each of the remaining varieties in my pantry right now, as it is a tradition at The Captain's house to buy and eat each of these for as long as supplies last in stores, so I chose "Other", not because there are any but because I can't choose among the three.

Count Chocula.
Because chocolate > fruity flavors.

The chocolate flavored cereals never tasted right, to me. My own concoction of Life cereal, with chocolate milk was so much better (I used to do that, when I was very young.
As an adult, I can't real touch sugary cereals, except maybe mini-wheats, and the odd Frosted Flakes, though neither in some years. I, also, prefer grape nuts or a honey oat bran cereal (though those are a bit of a mixed bag, with the sugar. Oatmeal was always big in our house, since that's what my dad grew up with and I tend to consume more of that that boxed cereal, these days.
In terms of the visuals and the commercials, I always preferred Frankenberry.
Now, in the Capt. Crunch line, it was always Quisp, followed by the Captain's blend. never cared for Peanut Butter of Crunchberry. Never overly wild about Fruit Loops or Trix, though I got them, once in a great while. I tended more to Alphabits or Honeycomb. We got to pick out own, so I varied a bit, depending if I wanted something different. Life was still usually my cereal of choice, for the majority of youth.

That none of those are sold in the UK is a scandal. I shall be writing to the Prime Minister.

I think I liked BooBerry the best, because I was fascinated by blue food.
Never had the two newer ones.
