Warren Ellis- Iron Man: Extremis.
Excellent arc which explored Tony Stark's character as a "big picture" type of hero (it's this storyline which made the word "futurist" a buzzword around Iron Man) rather than exploring his various addictions. The artwork from Adi Granov is also excellent. The only real issue with the storyline is that it lacks a particularly engaging villain but the exploration of Tony Stark is one of the more interesting explorations I've seen.

I'd give Rex Mundi a shout out. It was a good mixture of alternate history and magic, Julien Sauniere is a great hero and it managed to take some tired ideas (the priory of sion) and make it actually good. There were a few problems (despite all the intrigue it STILL Climaxes in the hero and villain slugging it out in a crumbling castle) but it was a fantastic saga that told its story in 36 issues. All things said it's a great story.
DH Conan was also good for a time before it was laid low. Shame it never got a conclusion
