NWA Powerrr, Week 6....
They group got a shout out from Edge, Adam Copeland; so that's 2 fans for the WWE Universe!
Recap of last week and a promo from Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson; the ROCK.....N..ROLL......EXPRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Robert even got to talk!
Great opening match with Trevor Murdoch crushing Caleb Conley; first catching him when attempting a splash into the corner, then planting him in the mat, then with the bulldog off the top rope, later. Murdoch was another trainee of Harley Race's school and World League Wrestling promotion; started out as Trevor Rhodes, then they switched him to the other Texas Outlaw, Dick Murdoch. He looks like Murdoch and can almost work like him. When he was motivated, there wasn't a better worker in the business than Dick Murdock; but, he liked to have fun and it kept him from being NWA World Champion. Trevor got some spotlight in the WWE, with Lance Cade; but, Cade's untimely death and personal issues derailed his career. If ever there was a guy who embodied old school wrestler with modern style, it is Murdoch.
Aron Stevens comes out and quits, after last week losing two straight falls to Ricky Starks. He's of to film Shogun of Malibu. Stevens is great as the arrogant, deluded buffoon. His wrestling looked rather rusty, last week; but, his promos are entertaining as heck.
Recap of last week's Marti Belle turn and she comes out in a tag match, with Thunder Rosa, against the blond girl team of Crystal Rose & Brooklyn Creed. Thunder is still, by far, the best of the women's roster. They got mic time and she is also the only female who seems to have a personality and can cut a promo. She did it in Spanish, with Marti Belle translating, with more fire than she had in her own promo. The women really need a mentor to help them with their promos. It seems like they haven't had much time on the indie scene to cut promos and do interviews. Hope someone is coaching them, as they are way behind many of the guys. Rosa is still the most credible worker of the women, laying her stuff in and making it look good, rather than repeating spots and looking soft on execution. She's tiny, though, especially when she was standing next to Dave Margez (, who she called "Gordito").
Question Mark spot airs again, followed by a spot from Nick Aldis about appearing at The Big Event (creative name!), in Queens.
James Storm cuts a killer old school promo, screaming about losing the National title, but turning his sights on Nick Aldis and the World title. Colt Cabana cuts a serious promo, then is interrupted by Ricky Starks who looks him over and say he is developing an appreciation for red leather and gold, which means Colt vs Starks is coming.
We get the debut of The Question Mark, a masked wrestler. Is it Vic Sage? Rene Montoya? Or is it someone we have already seen? Whoever is under that mask makes short work of Dan Parker. Just an aside, it's hard to say real men wrestle here and no cosplay guys, when Parker is rail thin and makes young Kendall Windham look like Sid Vicious.
Young Kendall (and big brother Barry)
Dan Parker
QM seems awfully familiar..............................
We also are left to ask the question, "Where is Jocephus?" Haven't seen him since James Storm beat the hell out of him!
Another ad for the NWA Retromania Wrestling game, coming in 2020. Preview of Dave Lagana's piece on Thunder Rosa's fight at Combates Americanas, on Nov 8 (she lost in a unanimous decision).
Eli Drake cuts a promo, then gets upstaged by the crowd chanting Question Mark and then Mr Anderson; so, expect a vocal war between these two. Drakes a good talker; but he is doing too much of the Rock's schtick and needs to find his own voice. He's wrestled two matches and is fine; but, doesn't really wow me with his work. They are setting great store in him; so, let's hope he starts to rise to it.
DRake is stirring the pot about Kamille speaking, then Tom Latimer and Royce Isaacs, the Wild Cards (tag champs) come out and Latimer tells him to mind his own bloody business. So, insinuating he's got something with Kamille, I guess. Used to spend his time as the son-in-law of Ric Flair, before he and Charlotte, got divorced. Could be interesting.
Billy Corgan talks about the NWA e-mail list members getting first crack at tickets for the PPV and encourages people to sign up. Says big announcement coming, while saying what you see now is not what the NWA will always be. More things to come. Let's hope there is some substance to that tease, like another tv platform or strategic alliance that will raise their profile even more.
Tony Falk has expanded his business empire to include Tony Falk's Rasslin Farm, where he grows heels and babyfaces!. $15,000 buys you your own heel or babyface Waffles and tire irons, heels and babyfaces; oh, my!
Aldis cuts a promo and is out to ensure no funny business occurs during the World Tag-Team Title match, between the Wild Cards and Kingston & Homicide (calling themselves Outlaw, Inc). Decent tag match, with the champs dominating. Isaacs and Latimer are a darn good team; like to see them in with the Dawsons.
Kamille comes out at the end, Aldis is pointing to the back and they get into an argument, though the theme song is playing over them. half the locker room comes out and is arguing as we close the show.
Another great episode. Thunder Rosa is the star of the women's division and they would be well served to put the title on her, provided they can get some good babyface women into the mix. Allysin Kay is more of a tweener and kind of a bland promo. They need a Cheerleader Melissa or Gail Kim type to really light things up.
Question Mark was a hit and Ricky Starks continues to show that he was a great find for them.James Storm vs Nick Aldis will be coming somewhere in the future and should be great. Great to see the Rock N Roll Express; should of let Cornette interview them, instead of Marquez.
Show really has no wasted moments. It moves right along, has a nice mix of unscripted promos and matches, personal angles and fights, just like the old days, with a nice mix of modern-style wrestling and old school psychology, from the more experienced guys. Ricky & Robert are still a working tag-team (and have trained some of the young guys) and will probably be wrestling, soon.
