I like Reckless. But The Fade-Out may be my favorite thing they’ve done.

Instead of starting a new thread every time there is an announcement of a new series, news about an existing series, etc. (and watching that thread get minimal responses and fall down the page quickly to get lost in obscurity) I thought it might be a better idea to have a thread about all such things where new comics involved, that has a better chance of participation and sticking around near the top o the page where people can actually see the announcements, etc. To start it off, several announcements concerning Jeff Lemire's current and upcoming projects...these hit the newsfeeds today but I am going to quote Jeff himself form his newsletter that appeared in my inbox this morning... I normally would pass on a Joker book, but I really dig what Lemire and Sorrentino produce as a collaborative team so I might give this a look. -M If it was almost any other character than the Joker I'd think about giving it a try for the Sorrentino artwork, but I think I'll pass. He's gotta work on something more interesting than the Joker eventually, if I just wait long enough, right?
That reminds me, what has JH Williams III been doing the last few years? I still haven't read the Batwoman series he did, though I must admit it looked great, but I just don't feel like reading Batman-related characetrs in general these days. Might have to cave in on that one though - at least it isn't the Joker!

J.H. Williams III has a new book from Image called Echolands. Issue #2 just came out this past month. I've read #1 and picked up #2 ealrier this week when I went to the LCS, but haven't had a chance to read it. It's a unique product in that the pages are landscape not portrait. -M

If it was almost any other character than the Joker I'd think about giving it a try for the Sorrentino artwork, but I think I'll pass. He's gotta work on something more interesting than the Joker eventually, if I just wait long enough, right? Nope. The only reason Lemire & Sorrentino are doing DC or Marvel projects in between their creator-owned gigs is for the regular paycheck-a job that pays page rates up front instead of paying on the back end like creator-owned projects through Image do. Make and put some money away to tied them over until the back end money comes in on the projects they really want to do. Lemire is in a better position, as he does his OGN's through a traditional book published that pays advances, ad he is a writer so can juggle more assignments than an artist, but he takes the work-for-hire gigs with Sorrentino so they can continue to do creator-owned stuff. So while there may be more interesting projects than a Joker book, there aren't many that are going to be more lucrative, and the projects they really want to do are creator-owned, not big 2 stuff, so if they go to Marvel and DC to do books, its going to be the bigger characters who will get them better page rates. So I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Sorrentino to do a DC or Marvel book that's not Batman/Joker or Wolverine/X-Men type books because those are where the money is at at the big 2. -M

Actually that's even better, since I'd prefer to read something independent by them rather than a Marvel/DC book, even if it was some character I happened to like in some incarnation or other in the past.

Even though I've been a little hard on Gideon Falls, I still think it's pretty decent. It's just that I think Lemire is one of the more talented comics writers out there at the moment, so I have higher expectations of him than I would for some others. And I'm still half expecting it to read better once I go a little farther in the series. I think I read only the first two volumes in my previous attempt, not the first three as I had been thinking - looks like i bought the 3rd collection when it came out but never got around to reading it. I'll probably start over from the beginning now and try to do the whole thing over the next week or two.

Looks like Diamond has been having issues this past week as they have been hit by a ransomware attack that took down their system all weekend. They are still trying to regain full access and have been setting up alternate e-mail and websites to weather the storm until things get back to normal, but it is causing some delays in books getting to shops this week and retailers being able to get FOC numbers in that were due today. I suspect retailers and new comic customers will be dealing with the impact of this ransomware attack for a while.

Crossover coming March 2022. 5 issue mini-series from IDW/Boom of Godzilla versus Mighty Morphin Rangers. Rita Repulsa tired of losing to the Rangers magically crosses dimensions ending up in the ZILLAVERSE and finding Kaiju and Aliens causing her just as much trouble. Eventually the Rangers track her down and you giant robot/kaiju fights will ensue.
It takes place early in Ranher history as Tommy is the Green Ranger with Dragonzord so that mix-up will have to be spotlighted at some point. Looks like fun!

I started this series in singled, but by the third trade I had switched to trade waiting as it reads so much better in bunches, so I have at least a six month wait for the next trade before my journey can continue. -M

I no longer support Image in single issues.
NEVER again.
after the crap they pulled with "Second Chances" #4 being digital only. . . .unless you purchase the trade. and I've been f'ed over so many times by Image when I spend $3.99 an issue for a 5-6 part series, then the Trade comes out for $9.99? But I wanted to support the creators, and as long as I enjoyed the book, ok, not bad, I got my enjoyment in the floppies.
but this case? Straw on camel.
*screw them*. . and yes, I wrote them about it and they never responded.
