Superman #12: When I started reading this issue, I was not impressed. I had forgotten what had happened last issue and had decided this would be typical Bendis chore to read. I was pleasantly surprised this was not the case. Things finally start coming together with the secret of Krypton's destruction and Jor-El's involvement. The best part of the issue is seeing Superman, Supergirl, Superboy, and Krypto all reunited. Loved the interactions with Supergirl and Superboy---and how Jor-El is left out of the family reunion. Nice quick scene with Superman and Zod too--involving their now mutual enemy Rogol Zarr. Next issue promises some big answers about Krypton's destruction and the intergalactic conspiracy surrounding it so fingers crossed. One of the better Superman issues lately. The art and colors are perfect. 7/10

Archie #705: Archie pulls one over on Betty and Veronica as he keeps his romance with Sabrina secret--despite the girls' and Cheryl's best efforts. Loved seeing just how slick Archie can be (with Sabrina's help). Lots of set up for things to come in this issue--Betty and Veronica are soon going to find themselves at odds (and this time not about Archie!). Reggie and Jughead's investigation surrounding Reggie's dad deepens and becomes even more mysterious. Sabrina warns Archie that things are about to get really bad in Riverdale. Great storytelling and impressive art. 9/10

Immortal Hulk #19Written by Al Ewing Art by Joe Bennett Summary: As the battle rages on the Abomination appears to have the upper-hand on the Hulk but with the Harpy on the way will that change? Plot: Whoa. No, I mean it. Whoa. I'm seldom shocked by a plot twist, but that one floored me. I mean, yes it's a major corporate comic so we know that {Spoiler: Click to show}the Hulk gets better but that last scene still packed a punch none the less. It was raw and deeply emotional. You really felt the pain. I've said before that this book has a great concept but ran hot and cold, but the cold issues we got towards the start have been a thing of the past lately making this iteration of the Hulk leap frog ahead of Peter David's run which is something I didn't think would ever happen. If you've ever enjoyed the Hulk but aren't reading this book you seriously need to stop what you're doing and go look for this now. Art: Bennett continues to shine as always. I loved how he drew Betty here as a true monster, the duality he brought to her was stunning. All hard angles as she dispatched the mercenaries but so tender as she passed by the praying bus boy. It was perfect. And of course he got the gross out scene at the end that he so excels at. Grade:10/10

The book may not always be a hit for me...some of that is because my Hulk knowledge largely stops about 1985. But it's always super interesting and well written with incredible art.

Upon further review I did buy the first hardcover of Jones' run from either Ebay or Amazon Marketplace at some point. But it's been every bit of 15 years since I've read it.

Hawkman #13Written by Robert Vendetti Art by Will Conrad Summary: Reincarnating through generations is nothing new, but when a war spans hundreds of years Hawkman finds he's not only traveling through time but across enemy lines! Plot: I had thought Hawkman was over with the last issue so I was surprised when I found this book in my pull this week. While the exploration here was as fun as in past issues as it's "Hawkman" didn't resemble the character as we know him or play on a past continuity I still liked enjoyed the concept it put forward of Carter just exploring past lives in little one shots. The issue as an ongoing however would be similar to my feelings here; some issues will be hits while others could be misses sort of like this one and at the end of the day how many past lives can you really explore until it becomes old? But until it does I'm certainly along for the ride. Art: I've never seen his work before but Conrad did a decent job depicting Carter here though he didn't get to do much of anything fun. Grade:6/10

Grade:6/10 That was what I thought also. But Venditti did such a good job on the first 12 issues that I'm good with him going on. I'm more than happy to have a series of one-and-done "history of Hawkman" stories if they're well done. And this was pretty fun. I felt like this was a clear call to The First World War. Enjoyable and nice to see a one-shot story.

Supergirl #31: this issue ties in with Superman #12. Much of the issue is devoted to big fight scenes and some scenes from Superman are repeated. It is nice to finally see this story all come together and how elements from the last year’s Supergirl stories add to it. We see where Supergirl and Superboy head off to in Superman #12 here. The art is ok despite 2 very different pencilling styles (2 pencillers, 2 inkers on this issue). Still, this story seems like it has gone on forever and I’m ready to not see hear or see Rogol Zara again. 6/10

Looking forward to picking up the 1st collected TPB's of both Archie/Sabrina and Immortal Hulk. All of the monthly reviews have piqued my curiosity enough for wanting to purchasing them to read.

Sonata #1Written by David Hine Art by Brian Haberlin Summary: When two opposing planets have exhausted their resources they both eye a new home which only invites conflict. Plot: I've never read anything by Hine but a sci-fi story with dinosaurs meant I just couldn't pass it by...and I'm glad I didn't as the world of Perdita was simply fascinating. A civilization in harmony with nature versus one slaved wholly to technology with a mystery world undreamed of underneath with danger on the horizon? What isn't there to love? I'm hooked and I can't wait to see where our plucky young heroine, the titular Sonata, goes next. Art: Similarly to Hine I had never seen Haberlin's work before but he really blew me away here. From his lush alien vistas to the detailed technology everything on the page just drew you in and made you want to linger all day and take it all in. Grade:10/10

Wonder Twins #5: not sure what I think of this book...some fun, satirical social justice themes, humor, crisp and clean art.....but something just seems off. Basically Zan and Jayna help one of their schoolmates whose father is mixed up with the League of Annoyance. Cell Phone Sylvia zaps the father into the phantom zone and apparently has been sending others there. TMZ reporting ensues and Sylvia gets off scott free. We then see the classmate striking a deal with the Scrambler to seek vengeance. There is a lot of content in this issue which I like, but not sure the overall tone is for me. Of course this title is aimed at millennials, so that could be why I don’t quite enjoy it as expected 5/10

Hawkman # 13
Nice done in one issue with a World War I vibe, yes.
Solid
Not sure if Conrad stays on after this issue or not, but the art was decent and even reminiscent of Bryan Hitch.
7/10
