beccabear67 ... what kind of material that they use to makes these garments? Cotton and silk, silk being more for the higher quality formal wear, not everyday like cotton. They are doing these special national pieces with a wide variety of techniques and materials though. I see the Russian kimono shows sputnik!

The word always makes me think of the Sparks album Kimono My House - not that I know it really well, just that the title has stuck in my head all these years ever since reading about it in a music magazine in the 70s. I never actually heard it until decades later, on youtube.

I'd like to get a kimono for my wife. She has a cheongsam that I bought her some years ago as a gift on our 15th anniversary. (Okay it was gift for me too.) Asian women's fashion is very beautiful and elegant, yet still sexy. It's a nice tasteful mix.
