The Brazilain car manufacturer who makes Renault has made a live action version of the cartoon as a commercial for their car and it rocks!

Holy crap, make that a show on Netflix now. Tiamat looked awesome!
Speaking of the old cartoon, I was at one of the local pop-culture resale shops last weekend and they had an episode running on their TV. All I can say is it has not held up well at all. So bad.

I doubt much of the cartoons we watched have held up well.
Cool advert though.

What a great advert. Really amazing to see the potential for a live action version of the cartoon there.
I loved the old D&D cartoon a lot: I video taped every episode as it was shown on UK television, and watched them over and over again throughout the '80s. My sister was also a big fan, and even now we will quote dialogue from the show on occasion.
These days I have the complete collection on DVD and, personally, I think it holds up rather well for what it is. I mean, after all, it's just a rather cheaply made '80s kids cartoon. But the character designs and personalities were really strong, the scripts were funny and exciting, and it had some excellent voice actors involved. Plus, there was a darkness to many episodes and even hints of horror, which I always felt elevated it about other shows of the era.
I dunno, this might just be my rose-tinted nostalgia glasses talking, but I find the D&D cartoon to be much more enjoyable to adult eyes than many other cartoons of the era, like He-Man, Thundercats, and Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends.

The weird synchronicity here for me is that our family car around the time the cartoon was airing was a Renault Encore.

Now if they can do ones based on Blackstar and Thundarr, the Barbarian.
The D & D cartoon was decent, for the time, and fairly engaging; nut, none of the Depatie-Freleng/Marvel Animation cartoons of the era hold up well, technically. Their budgets weren't great and they weren't very creative in working within them, like Filmation and their use of rotoscoping (and Filmation generally had better writers).
Thundarr is one that holds up fairly well, thanks to pretty creative stories and Jack Kirby design work (as well as Toth and some others). Scripts also had good writers, with Marty Pasko, Steve Gerber and Mark Evanier.

My bros are gonna love it.
Yeah, that and Thundarr would up I would think.
I'd forgotten about Blackstar.

I don't mind one bit ... if they brought back for the present generations to enjoy and preserve.

I want to buy a Renault now. That just might be the best commercial I've ever seen. Even if you don't love the cartoon, you have to appreciate what they did there.
I watched the whole D&D series last year, and I enjoyed it. I even watched the un-produced last episode based on the actual script that had been written.

Blackstar was pretty good, too.

Awesome commercial..and I like how it resolves what the cartoon never did (unless I have forgotten)-showing the kids returning home! Even Uni is in there!

A for effort. However, Sheila was my first crush, and she is woefully underrepresented.
