Gogor #1Written and illustrated by Ken Garing Summary: Among the flying islands of Altara a boy named Armano holds in his hands the only power capable of bringing peace to the land. Plot: After recently getting into Garing's Planetoid I just new I had to jump onto his newest project and I'm thrilled I did. Instead of the dystopian wasteland he explored in his last work Garing switches gears and gives us a beautifully lush, green, fantasy land full of floating islands, people riding strange beasts and a giant green monster. Though we got only the briefest of glimpses of this world and the people who inhabit it there was more than enough to get you hooked with it's use of easy to get archtypes in a unique world. It's a quick and easy, tried and true way to get you to buy into the world that instantly draws to mind the beginnings of such well loved stories as Star Wars or the Dark Crystal; a boy with a quest in a strange land, some times you just can't go wrong. I don't know where it'll go from there but I'm excited to follow along and see. Art: Though rare there are several well known writer/artists out there in the comic book world but I think Garing might be unique in that he writes, pencils, inks, colors and letters his own work which really makes everything he's does a true labor of love and that devotion to his work shows through in every panel. I mentioned the Dark Crystal earlier and I'll do so again as the minute attention to detail that Garing puts into crafting the world of Altara really feels like the livein worlds Henson was so great at crafting; Altara truly feels lived in and alive and the creatures who live there are just so fun you find yourself wanting to sit down and spend some quality time with them. Grade:10/10

Savage Avengers #1Written by Gerry Duggan Art by Mike Deodato Jr. Summary: Something rotten is going down in the Savage Land and only Wolverine and...Conan the Barbarian(!?) can save the day. Plot: I've never really liked anything by Gerry Duggan...and I don't think that's really going to change. There wasn't anything terrible in the set up here in this issue, he introduces Conan, Wolverine and then the Punisher well enough and the voices seemed about right...but there wasn't anything that wowed you. These characters are here...just because, and they're not doing anything more exciting than punching each other and ninjas for no other reason than once again...just because. As a one shot I think it could have been a fun Saturday morning type romp but an ongoing? I don't think I'll be sticking around. Art: I'm going to be honest here, I have always had a soft spot for Deodato; his larger than life art is a serious guilty pleasure of mine. Yeah, I know his style is the worst of 90's extravagance and there's little to distinguish him from the early Image guys and their imitators but I still keep coming back for more and he's the reason I decided to try this out. I might give it one more issue but like junk food Deodato's art is only something I can take for short periods despite loving him if there isn't something more going on and I doubt we'll get anything like that here. Grade:5/10

Young Justice #5: this issue was a bit disjointed as it flashes back a few days before YJ#1 and also has parts set in the present. I found the flashback more interesting. Robin learns from Zatanna that his memories have been messed with as we learn there was indeed a previous YJ team and that robin and Superboy were best friends (very cool 2 page pre flashpoint spread!). In the present, it’s more of Dark Opal yammering on. There are 3 artists on this issue, but at least it’s shipping on time. Not a bad issue, it’s very Bendis though. I do like the banter between the team members, however Teen Lantern is absolutely useless and so far adds nothing. Jinny Hex hasn’t had much to do either and I can’t quite get on board with this version of Amethyst. Maybe I’m just nostalgic, but I’d buy the book even if it just featured Robin, Superboy, Wondergirl, And Impulse. 5 1/2 out of 10

Female Furies # 4
This is really good ! It's Granny Goodness with more depth than we've ever seen and the struggle of her Furies in a heavily misogynistic society led by the big Darkseid himself. Barda and Scott are used as pawns and I'm really, really enjoying this. Sorry to see more people aren't reading this. Hoping against hope we get more New Gods.

Things happen because, "Wouldn't it be cool if..." and there's nothing more compelling than that to make it worth while.

Young Justice #5 did nothing for me. I was so excited to read this title and Bendis has make it sooo boring. The other title I bought this week was Green Lantern #7. While I appreciate Morrison was trying to do something different... it read like a bad acid trip.
Young Justice 3/10.
Green Lantern 4/10.
