Fantastic Four # 9 - An all right wrap but just ok.
Freedom Fighters # 5 - Great issue with Uncle Sam coming back and a big threat coming next issue.
The Terrifics # 15 - Good start with Gene Luen Yang taking over writing. Opening storyline; interesting to see where this goes and my suspicion of a character from another dimension.

Heroes in Crisis #8: the true killer and mastermind of the Sanctuary massacre is revealed...and it’s absolute rubbish. Taking a character that is enjoyed by many and destroying them in such a way....ugh. One more issue of this crapfest to go, but whoever greenlit this has really sunk DC to an all-time low. 0/10

Freedom Fighters#5: Uncle Sam returns, although the FF are a bit underwhelmed by his presence. Awesome issue showcasing the Spirit of 76 and the more classic versions of the team (at least for a page). Uncle Sam better get it in gear as the Nazis have their own secret weapon...a Nazi Superman type. Despite this being a quick read, I did feel hopeful seeing Uncle Sam. The art is worth the 3.99. 7/10

Jughead: The Hunger vs. Vampironica #1by Frank Tieri, Pat & Tim Kennedy, and Joe Eisma Holy crap is this bad. I made the mistake of purchasing a subscription to Vampironica based on the concept and cover art alone. The original series was...adequate. Lacking in many respects, but it had a few cool moments. This second outing, though, the plotting is patently absurd and the dialogue is so thoroughly bad that my freshmen could have written better. Not a single saving grace to this first outing, except maybe some adequate art that exudes the appropriate tone on occasion. Not even a good action scene. Grade: 1/10

That's why I haven't subscribed to any title since way back when I had subscriptions to Uncanny X-Men, Daredevil, Power Man / Iron Fist, Micronauts, Ka-Zar, Moon Knight. These days no team stays long, continuity is in the toilet, etc.
I've had subscriptions to fanzines but that's different.
Sorry for your experience Shax. Actually your post surprises me as most of the Archie stuff is pretty good the last few years.

shaxper were you able to find Blossoms 666? My shop had put a copy of Vampironica/Jughead in my box to see if I wanted it. I flipped through it and politely declined.

Detective Comics #1002 This is so bad, I can hardly stand it. We've got yet another Batman villain who wants to take down Batman because of the very concept of Batman. He makes the people of Gotham weak because they depend too much on Batman. He has surrounded himself with acolytes and they put themselves in danger. He attracts the violent elements to Gotham. If Gotham is a hell hole of violence and misery, it's Batman's fault. This has been done badly so many times lately that I can't even remember if it ever seemed like a fresh, new idea. And I wouldn't mind so much if they weren't so obviously writing for the trade so it has to be four or six or more issues long. FIND A NEW IDEA, BAT WRITERS! IF YOU'RE GOING TO USE SOMEBODY ELSE'S IDEA, TRY TO FIND A GOOD ONE! Oh well. At least it's not James Robinson!

FIND A NEW IDEA, BAT WRITERS! IF YOU'RE GOING TO USE SOMEBODY ELSE'S IDEA, TRY TO FIND A GOOD ONE! Maybe even just IF YOU'RE WRITING A FIVE OR SIX ISSUE STORY, MAKE IT ORIGINAL! So nice to know I'm not the only one who feels that way!

Riverdale Season 3 # 2: The first story is actually really good. It gives some background into just what Jason Blossom and Polly Cooper had planned when season 1 begins and we learn a bit about the Farm. The art is a bit uneven in the story, but in some panels it really fits. I would have enjoyed an entire issue featuring this story. Story 2 details Cheryl and Toni’s summer trip to California where they hang out with some other Serpents. We see them learning the fine art of robbery that they briefly showcased on the show. All this plus a reference to the always delicious In N Out burger! 7/10

Action Comics #1010: Clark and Lois go undercover in this spy/espionage heavy issue. I enjoyed seeing the Kents’ spy identities and it was fun to see Lois in the field with her husband. Also cool to see elements from the old Grayson title such as Tiger And Spyral. Big mistake here though as Kate Kane is identified as the Spyral leader when it’s actually 50s Batwoman, Kathy Kane...unless something’s changed. Mr Bones appears as well as Amanda Waller who’s holed up at the Fortress with Jimmy Olsen. Still, parts of the issue are confusing. The art is good, especially the colors. Not your usual Action Comics issue. 6/10

Grade: 1/10Other than After Life with Archie and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina I haven't cared for any of their horror offerings and I've even kind of soured on those two due to the delays. I honestly can't remember if either of them ever got satisfying conclusions.

Ascender #1By Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen Art by Dustin Nguyen Summary: Technology has fallen and Mother with her supreme control of magic has risen to take it's place with a ruthless hand...but is it all gone? Plot: Descender is by far one of my favorite books to come out in the last ten years and although the ending was fantastic I was saddened to see the world end...so then you can imagine my joy to see it return again in Ascender! With any sequel there's always the pull to give your audience more of what they loved before, and while it can be fun to see more adventures from old friendly faces it can became predictable as well which makes this newest venture from Lemire all the more refreshing. Yes, there are some returning faces, yes the setting is familiar...but the whole world that came before has so radically changed since we last saw it that it feels brand new and just begging to be explored. And while the abrupt switch to a story with heavy fantasy trappings in place of what was a pretty hard sci-fi world should feel jarring Lemire and Nguyen really make it work and I can't wait to get my hands on the next issue! Art: As always, my main draw really is the art by Nguyen. Sure the plots are always good, but man there is just nothing like Nguyen's beautifully water colored art out there which really draws you in with it's rich colors. Every image is just so stunning, making you really stop and linger over each page which makes reading the book so much more of a satisfying experience than any other comic out there. Grade:10/10

Marvel Comics Presents #4Written by Charles Soule, Daniel Kibblesmith and Benjamin Percy Art by Paulo Siquiera, Pere Perez and Juan Ferreya Summary: Wolverine's Trek through time reaches the 70's, Peter Parker watches Star Wars for the first time and enter the Moonknight! The Meat: Any anthology book is going to have it's ups and downs; that's just the way the cookie crumbles and this issue more than any of the other preceding ones was definitely more down than up. While the soul ongoing feature with Wolverine is still interesting enough conceptually to keep my interest the plot mechanic which once seemed novel( jumping from decade to decade as the demon reappears) is starting to feel more than a little repetitive now and there isn't a whole lot new added in this chapter to distract you from that. I really think the feature would be much better served if it gave you something more interesting culturally each decade to latch onto before the demon showed up and the rumble happened yet again, as it was here other than the Bhola Cyclone there was nothing to really ground this story in the 70's so the time travel hardly felt present. Also taking place in the 70's was Marvel Age feature focusing on Peter Parker experiencing the cultural phenomenon of Star Wars and while it mentions Peter's excitement to see the movie and features him standing in line to see it it gives no real insight into the era or what made Star Wars special...and I can't really fathom how they could have really captured that better in a comic so I'm left wondering why it was attempted at all. And playing off the focus on the seventies the final feature is a new adventuring featuring a character that first made it's debut in that decade: Moonknight, and it's the real saving grace of this issue. Despite loving Doug Moench I've never really got into Moonknight but this feature really caught my eye; the art by Ferreya was really atmospheric and although the plot was simple the monologue accompanying it had a great noir vibe that I absolutely loved making it a truly perfect one and done. Grade:6/10
