Serious congratulations, Scott! You have now accomplished what most of us have only dreamed of. Thanks! I still have some work to do — I'm in the process of making a video to announce the Kickstarter launch date to the world. So many new programs I've had to learn how to use for this thing! And more to come, I'm sure. I can't wait for whatever format issues come up when I try to get the files to the printer...

The comic may be done, but that doesn't mean the work is finished! I'm currently doing a bunch of production stuff — formatting, editing, all that fun nonsense. My hope is that by the end of next week it will be ready for the printer. I'm also toiling away at the Kickstarter campaign. I have a couple really cool rewards to share with you down the road, but for now, here's a look a the custom Funko Pops that I hand painted; a very limited number of these will be offered when The Crimebusters goes live on Kickstarter on June 11!

I really like the lettering now. Hoping I can support at some level!

Getting close to the June 11 launch on Kickstarter! Right now, I'm neck deep in Kickstarter stuff, so I decided I'd share some of that process with everyone in my new blog. And I'm sure I'll be writing a lot more about the process and experience as things progress! crimebustercomics.com/2019/05/17/kickstarter-101-goals-stretch-goals-and-rewards/The main things: my initial goal is $500, but if we hit the $800 stretch goal, I will be adding a 4-page Squeeks solo back-up story to the book, which I am working on now! Here's a tease:

The first issue is off to the printers for proofing! I'm totally stoked! I've been wrestling for awhile with the numbering for this first issue. I really want to keep the legacy numbering from Boy Comics, but at the same time, I know there are some (weird) readers who may not give the series a try if it's got a #120 on the cover. So... I've decided to just print copies with both numbers and let people choose whichever number they want. I'm going to have a total of four covers. The regular one will be #1, but there will also be a (Kickstarter exclusive) legacy number variant for the same price with a #120 on the cover. Additionally, Trixie and Chuck will each have their own variant covers; Trixie's will be a #1, while Chuck's will be #120 with the Boy Comics logo. So people can pick whichever cover or number they like best. I'll be unveiling the three variant covers over the next three weeks! You can read all about my thoughts on numbering in my latest project update: crimebustercomics.com/2019/05/23/the-numbering-question/

Okay, since you guys are my special buddies — and honestly, probably the only people who will care about this sort of nerdy comic stuff — I'll tell you that each of the three variants is going to be an homage to a classic cover. One by Kirby, one by Adams, and one by Infantino. I'm guessing most of the people on Kickstarter won't notice or recognize them, but I'm looking forward to drawing them!

An Indy Comics with a number in the hundreds is going to get my attention fast.

I've decided to just print copies with both numbers and let people choose whichever number they want. And Indy Comic with #1 on the cover means nothing to me. An Indy Comics with a number in the hundreds is going to get my attention fast. This is how I feel as well; in my head, it's issue #120. We'll see how this experiment goes doing it both ways. I'm going to have versions with the real numbering for every issue going forward, so newbs can have their #1 and #2, and us grizzled vets in the know can have the real #120 and #121 and so on. And I'm not changing anything in the interior, so it's still going to reference Crimebuster's continuity, including old school editor's notes with stuff like *- It happened in Boy Comics #118! I was originally just going to use the same cover, and have some printed with one number, and some with the other. But the printer I am using has a minimum order of 25 copies per cover. I was worried about printing 25 copies with a #120 on the cover, and not being able to sell more than three or them. That's why I eventually decided to do a variant cover - to make it a little more enticing to Rando Reader - and also make it a Kickstarter Exclusive Variant, which just means it will only be available on Kickstarter as a reward, and not when I'm at shows or something. Some people find that sort of exclusivity to be a reason to buy. But the cost for backers is going to be exactly the same either way, so any backer can just ask for the #120 version instead of the #1 version if they want, I am making them interchangeable. I'm not going to finalize the number for my print run until the end of the campaign, so I'll know whether or not I need to order more than 25, or just get the minimum. I think old school readers like us will like the new #120 cover better anyway than the regular one! And I think the variant I have in mind with the Boy Comics logo is going to be really cool too.

The Kickstarter will launch two weeks from tomorrow! Over the next week or so, I'll be revealing the three variant covers. Here's the first one! This is the Kickstarter Exclusive Legacy Number Variant - this will be available at the same price as the regular cover, but will only be available as a Kickstarter reward; I won't be selling any copies outside of Kickstarter. So if you like this one, get it while it's hot! Of course, this is an homage to Flash Comics #92 by Carmine Infantino, which itself is an homage to Detective Comics #38 by Kane and Robinson. Since I'm introducing Trixie Trouble in this issue as Chuck's new partner, I thought a cover with the classic DC "smash through a paper circle" motif would be perfect. And Black Canary's solo series cover from Flash Comics #92 seemed like the obvious pick. I did borrow the text from Detective Comics #38, though. Two covers down and two to go!

Here's the latest variant cover! Every issue I'll be doing a variant cover starring Trixie, re-imagining the story as an entry in her line of young adult mystery novels. Here's the first one, which as you can see is an homage to Detective Comics #395 by Neal Adams.

I just ran across this while re-reading a 2008 Alter Ego... "The first comic I remember was an issue of Boy Crimefighter (Boy Comics, starring “Crimebuster”) that my dad had confiscated from one of his students." - Dave Cockrum

Here's the final variant cover. The original point behind this whole project, of course, was to make new issues of Boy Comics! So of course every issue is going to have a variant featuring the Boy Comics logo and numbering, with Chuck Chandler front and center. This cover is also an homage to Captain America Comics #3 by Simon and Kirby! And here's the lineup of all four covers: I may have another update tomorrow, as I'm supposed to be getting the first proof copy from the printer. We'll see! I was supposed to get it today but it didn't arrive. Just six days until the Kickstarter launches on June 11! I'm... super tired. Been working like a dog to get this done in time. But it's basically all done now - the Kickstarter page is approved and ready to launch with the click of a button - so it's all good.

They're all great covers, Crimebuster. Well done. I'm not a variant cover guy ever, so it's definitely the standard "First Issue" that I'd plump for. But the variants are very nice, especially the Boy Comics one.
