Well, that didn't last long. My list has changed already. I realized I'd left off a comic of the '80s that is not only one of my favorite adaptations but one of my favorite runs, period.
Cei-U!
If it had popped up as somebody else's entry, I would've been sooo pissed at myself!

The last 2 days I've worked 13 hours , about 8 of them in the dark, and I realize that I'm going to have to write these 12 days reviews now. I usually write them the day of or before, but that's not going to work. I don't like posting my picks days later , I feel like 'm missing out on the excitement.

Man, after seeking advice from the almighty oracle of Classic Comics Christmas I've found that two of my choices are no goes as they are media adapted into comic strips, not comic books! So no glowing reviews of why I love the long lost Masters of the Universe comic strip or Russ Manning's daily dose of Star Wars!
Back to the drawing board for me.

I tend to write out my list, noting some highlights or thoughts and then wing it from there. Sometimes as the countdown progresses my entry's may even change their placing. And since I don't access the site on weekends or holiday's when I am off then this year the last 4 days will by default have to be entered in afterwards.

My main problem is that I don’t own many of the books that I like. Thank God for the interweb.

Well I have it down to 7 definites, and about 20 adaptations vying for the last 5 spots. There are going to be some definite favorites that get relegated to stocking stuffer status (i.e. just misses and honorable mentions) rather than making the twelve days. I hope some of them get some love from others here.

My preliminary list is lost somewhere on my desk...probably. More likely than not I'll be winging it. As usual.

Down to 20 choices overall. How do you choose between the likes of works by P. Craig Russell, Jim Steranko, Barry Windsor-Smith, Bernie Wrightson, Walt Simonson, Mike Mignola, Gil Kane, Jack Kirby, George Perez, Marshall Rogers, Keith Giffen, John Buscema, Neal Adams, Gene Colan, Tim Sale, Richard Corben, Joe Kubert, Bill Sienkewicz, Michael Lark, Eric Shanower, Alex Ross, Mike Ploog, Mike Grell, William Messner-Loebs, Alex Toth, Steve Rude, Howard Chaykin, Dave Wenzel, and others and trim it down to 12? Kurt could have given us advance warning at the 4th of July and I would still be agonizing over my picks.
I'm thankful things like Darwyn Cook's Parker adaptations and Joe Lansdale's Dunwich Horror adaptation are too recent to be included, at least I don't have to agonize over them. -M

Whoops.
Just realized that one of mine came out after Jan 1, 2009.
I'm lucky I have a deep bench.
