Could I count the DC Comics incarnations of Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation as two choices? It's not to "cheat" or anything, but although under the Trek umbrella, they are obviously two different sets of adventures.

So who else is voting for that time Daredevil met Uri Geller? (I may not actually be voting for that time Daredevil met Uri Geller.) Edit: My phone autocorrected Uri to Uti twice. Due to the erratic distribution back then I've never seen that issue, even though I was reading DD regularly at the time. I do seem to recall a minor letters page controversy about it a few issues later. I had never heard of Geller up to then so had no feelings about him or his appearance in a DD comic one way or the other.
I'm slowly coming up with a few more ideas for non-REH adaptations, at least two of which so far will probably make my list - and, I suspect, more than a few other members'.

I am really disappointed that I had to cut both Neil Gaiman and Dave Sim from my list. I'm hoping the works I have in mind get some representation here.

EC - 1 King - 1 Marvel and DC - 1
Horror - 2 Jungle -2 Science fiction - 2 Sword and sorcery - 2 Fantasy - 1
Funny animal - 1 Humor/parody - 1 Super-hero - 1
Pulp fiction - 3 Movies -2
Novels - 2 TV series - 2 Animated cartoons - 1 Comic strips - 1

We'll see how long it lasts.

No, the comic has to center on the real life person, at least for the particular issue cited. So the Marvel Team-Up guest starring the original SNL cast is eligible but not the cameos of Mohammad Ali and Howard Cosell in Iron Man #145. Cei-U! I summon the qualification!
And now I suddenly want to include X-Men #98 for its depiction of Stan and Jack, just because you said I can't. Funny how that works sometimes. But Cary Bates' appearance in The Flash #228 would count.

A month hiatus off from the site and I see my favorite threads of the year are coming. Wow, this is going to be super tough, but I'm going to wing it. I have no order. I'm going to pick 12 of my favorite adaptations and that's it.....
Looking at my living room and comic boxes right now and I already have 25 in front of my face. Just need to narrow it down

I have to do some inventive acquiring of comics and stories for this years CCC. I NEVER buy adaptations , because I feel they pale to the source material in most cases. The Star Wars movies are visually spectacular and it can't be captured on paper, for example.

Say, Cei-U!, honorable master of ceremonies... Would it be O.K. to have a second thread on the Classic Comics Board, where we would provide supplementary material regarding our choices? Sometimes we'd like to link to twelve images and ancillary stuff when presenting our daily selection but that would of course make the Classic Comic Christmas 2018 thread itself completely unmanageable. It would be like a paper in Nature... The "true" article itself is brief and to the point, but the authors provide 60 pages of supplementary material that is available elsewhere if people want to know more.

We talked about something along those lines last year. I'm fine with it BUT let's hold off until the event itself is done (like we do our Near-Misses thread) to avoid confusion.

After 12 hours and whittling down from my collection, I'm down to 12 (flexible in terms or moving selections in or out)
7 from books/novel/literature 2 from movies 1 from television 2 from the stage
My number one is definite; the rest I'll go with the flow....

Is it okay to choose a comic for which there are toys, provided the comic predates toy licensing?
There is one choice which started off as a film, became an animated series - and then a comic. The toys came fourth.
It's fun coming up with choices.

I am going to be sorting through possibilities up until the moment Kurt posts the first choice. I think I have 3 definites so far, and a whole host of others vying as possibilities, some of which I am trying to revisit, and some that have been in my "to read" pile for a while that I haven't gotten to yet that I will try to get to in the next week or so time permitting. This is definitely going to be a case of picking choices as of right now, and should the topic be revisited my choices would likely be radically different then. I couldn't even begin to give you a break down of what my choices are yet.

Just to make sure I have the right idea about this year's theme, comics featuring specific characters that were created in other media, like e.g. Dracula or Frankenstein's monster, would qualify but not Tales of the Zombie or Werewolf by Night, since they're just based on the general folklore about those kinds of supernatural creatures.
