Following in the footsteps of Ed Brubaker before him, Lemire announced this weekend that with the exception of an upcoming Black LAbel project for DC he will no longer be doing work for hire comics and focusing on his creator-owned projects (and working on the Essex County tv show next year). I've always felt Lemire's creator-owned stuff was head and shoulders above his work for hire stuff, so I am glad for this, as it will lead to more comics I want to read. -M

While I love his work in the DCU, I much prefer Descender and Black Hammer, so more of that will be fantastic.

Yup, fixed. need to double check what I type when the dog interrupts me 4 times while trying to type 1 sentence so I don;t cross my train of thought and suffer a derailment like I did. -M

His creator-owned work is among the best stuff out there now (along with Brubakers). I mostly have no interest in his work-for-hire stuff. So...good deal!

I haven't read a ton of his work-for-hire stuff, but with the exception of his run on Green Arrow, most of it I thought was just OK. In that respect, I find him to be the anti-Mark Waid, whose work I tend to like when he writes for the Big Two, but haven't really been able to get into his creator-owned material.

Very glad to hear it. I haven't read much of Lemire - just his first solo book, Lost Dogs, which was pretty rough, as you'd expect, but showed lots of promise. Of his work-for-hire, I've read only his first Moon Knight collection, which didn't go down with me too well, but I admit to being pretty set in my thinking of how that character should be written.
I have bought the first volume of rillium but haven't read it yet. And I'm interested in one of his current series too, Gideon Falls, which caught my attention for some reason I can't recall at the moment.

Have some early Descender I haven't read yet but I love Black Hammer.
Am going to very much is Valiant work ! He did great work there on Bloodshot Reborn and The Valiant (Valiant's supergroup similar to the Avengers).

I enjoyed his work-for-hire on both Hawkeye and Moon Knight for Marvel, but I certainly see his POV on this. It's a higher-risk, higher-reward play for him, but as he has name recognition, this is a smart decision.
Never read any of his creator-owned work, but it sounds like I should rectify that.

I liked his Thanos run. Is it safe to say Marvel didn't think his art commercially appealing and so they never let him draw a comic?Personally I like his art and wonder how that would have translated to Marvel and DC.

There is a lot to digest and reading it on a month to month basis was very confusing.

Good, good. That would be great waste of effort and talent for him to lock himself in assembly-line contracts.
I started the other day Gideon Falls, it's intriguing and atmospheric book. It has forked story and we follow crazy hoarder who is making some sense out of the junk that he collects...

His big news week gets even bigger, as Sweet Tooth is ordered to pilot from Hulu.

I don't really prefer his creator owned stuff to his work for hire stuff, honestly. I liked Underwater Wielder A LOT but I liked those first few issues of Animal Man A LOT as well. Still, I always respect guys moving away from more formulaic corporate stuff.
Edit: I'm sure I missed some indy stuff. Essex County... I could see the craft but it just did not hit for me. There was an Image or Dark Horse comics series about a family of superheroes that I think was Lemire which I found kind of boring. I'm sure he's done other not-work-for-hire stuff.
