So if you were offered a chance to be part of a Mars colony would you go? Why or why not?
For me... No. Just because of my family. But if I had no family? I would go.

I think my gender disqualifies me. According to a documentary I watched, Mars needs women.

Would go in a moment's notice in hopes of finding scantily clad red women to save from 4 armed green warriors with my superior strength/leaping abilities, amazing sword skills and outdated code of chivalry

At my age, I would pass and because of my hearing disability -- it's a No in my book and I run a club of 180 members that needs my leadership to sustain and that's another good reason for me to pass it up.

Nope. If something goes wrong, help is going to be a hellaciously long time in coming.
Cei-U! I summon (my total lack of) the pioneer spirit!

I would certainly WANT to go... family will come too I'm not sure I'm the most qualified, though.

I don't know; it sounds cool. Lots of great music, especially the height of Glam Rock, funky threads, a Ford Cortina.......
the language is a bit hard to understand, though....

When I was single, I would have gone. Now, probably not. If we were a little younger, though, maybe. 50 years from now there's probably going to be more safe drinking water on Mars than on Earth.

Not much for me here at present, so I'd probably go.

I think I'd rather see a moon-base first (and being the first, we could call it Moon Base Alpha!). The whole idea of manned mission to Mars seems premature to me. I don't think we have the technology to do it right yet.
I hope our NASA member MW Gallagher sees this thread and gives his input, I'd love to hear what he thinks of issue as a professional.

A few decades ago I would have said “yes”! without hesitation. Now I’m older, more tired, more jaded about things... and the idea of dying on Mars doesn’t sound as romantically irresistible as it once did. I’d rather see the place be terraformed from a distance first.
As far as living in harsh and beautifully stark environments go, I’d rather move to the arctic right now.

I'd go in a heartbeat. But they wouldn't want me.

Nah
Place is a barren wasteland.
Would get depressing as hell very quickly IMO.
