Your BF is from Astoria? Cool... From Seattle; a refugee from a city he no longer recognizes. If you're around, the Pig N Pancake by the bridge is pretty good. What about the culinary arts; maybe a recipe could be humanity's greatest artistic achievement?

What about the culinary arts; maybe a recipe could be humanity's greatest artistic achievement? My late mother's homemade split pea and ham soup was a f'ing masterpiece, that's fo' damn sure! Haven't has it in 21 years and I can still taste it.
Cei-U! I summon the droolworthy memories!

Model T Ford. The 1st mass produced practical automobile which began the transportation age creating a way spanning across the globe where mankind was no longer limited to living/working in one particular place. Whether it is travel for work, play, visiting relatives or even just cruising around looking cool, the car has become a necessary item of purchase for most everyone in the world. And if you don't have a car, then you still may use some form of vehicular transportation to travel.

One might also argue that it was key factor (along with the return from France of countless young vets whom they couldn't keep down on the farm after they'd seen Paree) in the shift in sexual mores in the United States, allowing, as it did, a private place for couples, away from chaperones and prying eyes. A fine art, indeed.

I don’t think I have enough culture or taste to select the right candidate, but among the works of art that really moved me are these great cathedrals in France: Chartres, Reims and Strasbourg.
They’re like poetry written in stone and stained glass. Their flying buttresses rise as if to touch the heavens, and their shadowy naves seem to hide the secrets of creation.
And they were built by people who had but the most rudimentary mathematics... It boggles the mind.

On a side note, in terms of artistic achievements, and while many works of art blow me away or inspire quasi mystical feelings, only music can make me cry.
How music can reach down and touch my soul the way no other art can, I have no idea. I don't even play a single instrument.
