Astonishing X-Men 14 by Matthew Rosenberg with art by Greg Land:Finally, a X-Men title I can follow and actually know who the characters are. This team is shaping up to be some folks even the X-Men won't accept. Havok is back trying to redeem himself and getting cut off at every turn. Colossus is drinking himself into oblivion after Kitty calls off their wedding. Dazzler is a joke going on a world tour that no one shows up for. Throw in Beast and Warpath and you have the perfect mix for action, lots of comedy, and a team that is so dysfunctional that they actually work....so far. Rosenberg throws in quick jokes here and there and each character has a distinct tone and voice. Greg Land's art starts to look the same after a while, but so far, it is not too bad. Some panels look like he's traced over a photo though. All this and the return of a classic X-Man makes for a very fun book and well worth the cover price. Not a quick 3 minute read, but one you can dig into (without going to deep). Kind of like the tone of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Glad I added this one to my pull list!

Well, I'm glad that you're enjoying an X-book but for me, Rosenburg's new run continues to have problems.
Havok is okay here, better than how inexperienced he was portrayed last issue but I still have difficulty with his new attitude. Over in Blue, Bunn left Alex with a great moral dilemma after being reverted (which is the true Alex Summers?), a conflict that seems to have been glossed over now in favor of this. Lost dramatic potential there in my view.
Warpath's reason for being there, Beast, they were good. It was great seeing Dazzler again, classic costume(s) and all. However the real disappointment was Peter. Over in Gold, Guggenheim has been showing Peter and Kitty as two mature adults dealing with the latest fallout of their long-standing romance. Here though, his decision to go on an extended bender as a response feels way out of character especially when you also consider his expressing the odd and suddenly out-of-the-blue feelings about how the team just wanted 'Colossus' and not 'Piotr'. What?
The time disconnect between the X-titles is starting to get frustrating. Over in Red, Forge is under the mental thrall of Cassandra Nova yet here he's putting his formidable talents and skills towards being Dazzler's set designer. Um, o-kay.
Land's art is the biggest saving grace here for me.
