Earlier today I was checking out the TwoMorrows site and the Alter Ego Centennial book caught my eye, so I checked out the Preview...and vis-à-vis MDG 's and my recent posts above, guess what I came across on page 12: Interesting--I bought the page direct from Colan in NYC probably in the late '80s, though I've shared it before. The way the image is cropped cuts off the inscription to me, but I get the feeling this image is from a Xerox made at DC.
And despite Roy's feelings, I still think the pencilled version is a lot stronger than the final.

So, on my walk yesterday morning, I was surprised to see this: Since it was 7 AM, I assumed they weren't open, but I'll have to stop down (when it stops snowing).

From THE FLASH #173, 1967, Kid Flash uses his super speed in a novel manner that I don't recall ever seeing repeated, for super-blowing:

I saw this photo of Ann-Margret the other day in one of the Facebook groups I follow, and it made me think that you can really see what John Romita was going for with Mary Jane Watson. I mean, I'd long known that Ann-Margret was who Romita based MJ on, but this photo was the first time I was really able to see it.

Also from FLASH #173, September 1967: The half-face framing Carmine Infantino uses here caught my eye, since it's something Jim Starlin used a lot... and then I read on and thought 'Gold skin? Full wavy hair? Black around the eyes? Extensions on the chest-piece rising over the shoulders? Bare legs? Jewel on the forehead that projects power beams?' Look familiar to anyone else? (I'm not suggesting Gil Kane swiped his Warlock design--which was derived from Jack Kirby's 'Him', who only had golden skin in common--from Infantino's 'Golden Man', but it's an interesting predecessor that incorporates several distinctive aspects, isn't it?)

"Him" didn't have a jewel on the forehead, that was something added when Thomas & Kane redesigned him as "Adam Warlock".
It's crazy that to this day, I have never read a single issue of that run. I have the 4 Kirby issues, the 3 Herb Trimpe episodes (in HULK) and all the Starlin episodes, but not the stuff in between Kirby & Trimpe.

One of our semi-local shops, Laughing Ogre in Columbus (I'm slightly closer to Dayton-35 minutes-than Columbus-45 minutes-so I consider the Dayton stories local and the Columbus semi-local as I don't get to Columbus as often) is nominated for this year's Eisner for best retailer, and each nominee is asked to submit a video so the board to consider. This is their video, which is shot by Richard Katterjohn one of my circle of con friends. He also does some of the design for the video. It's a pretty amazing shop-it even has a logo designed by Stan Sakai, and Jeff Smith is a pretty frequent visitor and supporter of the shop. It's been a fair bit since I've been there, but I need to make a point to visit next time I am in Columbus (I have to see a hernia specialist at the OSU hospital in mid-June, so that will likely be my next trip and when I will try to to visit. It's an amazing store witha huge selection, and not just the regular Diamond offerings to, as you'll see in their video... (there's a little glitch at the beginning but it clears up after that)

I was listening to a YouTube interview of Tom Palmer. Very interesting stuff, In one segment he talks about how Alex Raymond died. It turns out he was driving with Stan Drake in Drakes sports car with the top down and the weather became rainy. Drake survived the car skidding off the road but Raymond was impaled on the front of the cars Windshield.

Yes, it happens that Drake was thrown from the car as well.

It's been a few years (usually go to Bookery Fantasy and Bell Book and Comic Can these days), but I can confirm that they are a quality shop.
