Icctrombone's upcoming trip (posted in the Meanwhile thread) got me thinking about my favorite trip.
For 10 years we hosted foreign exchange students from Japan, South Korea & Spain. In June 2003 we arranged to visit some of our students. We spent the month in Japan visiting 10 different cities. We only spent 2 nights in a hotel. The rest of the time we spent in homes. What a great way to see another country. We could immerse ourselves in the local communities & culture. We also avoided the tourist "traps" and ate at local restaurants. My daughters say this was their favorite vacation ever. Even over Disney World, the beach, cruises, etc.
What was your favorite vacation?

Spent 4th of July in Boston. 2) 1994 Europe/D-Day Trip with my Parents visiting 18 Countries - 50th Anniversary of D-Day - 2 Months 3) 2000 China Trip with my Parents visiting major cities, Hong Kong, and a side trip to Thailand - 2 Months

i've done a lot of great trips..but I have a feeling my "favorite" one is the one coming up in just about 2 1/2 months:
roller coaster trip, with a theme park group, hitting up many of the new coasters for 2018. Starting in Atlanta (for SFoG), up the East Coast, and ending in Cedar Point (for Steel Vengeance). . and hitting 9-10 parks in total.
gonna be amaze-balls.

I've never been further away from home than Europe,Turkey and North Africa. But within that area, three trips to Macedonia, a visit to Egypt, a family holiday to Lanzarote in the early '80s (before the island was spoilt by tourism), and my honeymoon in Italy last year stand out as my favourite foreign vacations so far.
I've also had some fantastic holidays here in the UK, with trips to the New Forest, Edinburgh and umpteen holidays in Devon and Cornwall being favourites.
However, the vacation I've been most excited about is undoubtedly my upcoming trip to the U.S., in a little over three weeks time. I've wanted to visit the States since I was a little kid, and as my obsession with American music, culture and history developed in my teens, 20s and 30s, I only wanted to go there more and more. Surfice it to say, I am counting down the days until 28th May. I can't wait to get on American soil.

this trip starts in Atlanta, and ends in Sandusky. . so parks will be: Six Flags Over Georgia, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Kings Dominion, Carrowinds, Sesame Place, HersheyPark, Knoebel's, (possibly) Six Flags America, and Cedar Point. . . with a couple of additional quick stops likely added along the way.
gonna be a great trip!

As lame as it may sound my favorite trip was to Disneyland when my younger boys were little. My oldest son was going to school in Long Beach and we hadn't seen him in at least a year. Connor turned five in the park and got a call from Goofy which thrilled him. Nathan was probably 11 so he could go back and forth between the little kid stuff with Connor and the older rides. There is definitely an age that makes the place extra special and we hit it just right.

Well, I arrived back from my 9 day trip to Egypt, Israel and Isanbul last night. I have to confess that if it wasn't for my wife I would never travel outside of my country. But I did enjoy all our stopping points. It was nice albeit, all crammed together without a chance to catch our collective breaths. I would recommend anyone going to Egypt as we were treated like kings. But I am over long ( 10 hour +) plane rides.

A weekend on Islay, a Scottish island known for its whisky distilleries.
I had been staying in Harrogate, England. And there was no easy way to get to Islay or back. Couldn't do either direction in a single day. And I was still afraid of driving in the UK. So I made it with a combination of train/bus/taxi/ferry/hitchhiking/airplane. I love islands. I love whisky. I visited Laphroaig, Ardbeg and Lagavulin. Tasted a lot of whisky, sat along the coast, learned to fold a kilt. Saw a band play at night. A friendly local bought me a glass of whisky.

Found a couple old CBR folks, spent some time at my favorite bar on earth (Keen's Steakhouse), and caught a Broadway show (The Band's Visit)
