Revolver is my favorite Beatles album (as in the Parlophone Revolver, not the Capitol). I grew up with two Beatles singles and one LP my Dad had bought: I Want To Hold Your Hand b/w I Saw Her Standing Thereand Twist And Shout b/w There's A PlaceI thought There's A Place was an incredible song! Still do... The one album we had was unique to Canada (Capitol Canada) Long Tall Sally (in mono): www.45worlds.com/vinyl/album/t6063These three all came out around the same time in early 1964, I wonder if he bought them all together? First flush of Beatlemania! My Mom says she thought they were out of tune, she preferred the Everlys and Buddy Holly still. I've been listening to oddball early '80s Abba recordings, stuff that wasn't a hit, sort of techno-synth some of it... I Am The City, Under Attack, Two For The Price Of One, I Owe You One, Head Over Heels, Just Like That, and Dream World an unreleased 1978 demo (a bit of it was recycled in Does Your Mother Know You're Out).

After hearing this in the 2md episode of Lovecraft Country, I haven't been able to get it out of my head... Yeah, that's a great track. But then again, just about everything in Lovecraft Country is friggin' awesome.

This might sound like a stupid question, but is the Lovecraft Country TV show anything to do with H.P. Lovecraft? From the little I've seen of it online it looks to be a Civil Rights era drama, but "Lovecraft country" is a nickname given to the area of New England where the author set many of his Cthulhu Mythos stories.

From the little I've seen of it online it looks to be a Civil Rights era drama, but "Lovecraft country" is a nickname given to the area of New England where the author set many of his Cthulhu Mythos stories. The protagonist and his uncle are fans of pulp fiction stories (Burroughs, Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, etc.) and Lovecraftian tropes and attitudes towards race are part of the thematic underpinnings of the show, form what I've seen so far (I'm only 2 episodes in). And there's a dream sequence in the opening of the first episode that features an epic battle between Jackie Robinson and Cthulhu that is worth the price of admission alone.... -M

I made it through two days of roof replacement and I want to credit the following rock albums for blocking it all out: the first three albums by April Wine, followed by the third through fifth albums by Chilliwack, followed by The Glitterhouse -Color Blind, followed by The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced Deluxe. Thanks to the late '60s and early '70s for the perfect bass and drum sound!
Here's a sweet suite by homeboys Chilliwack circa 1974 for anyone willing to sample! It gave me flashbacks of that Gerry Anderson movie Doppleganger/Journey To The Far Side Of The Sun!
The Glitterhouse's Tinker Bell's Mind sent me off to the interior of a giant lotus flower in tranquility forest with the Bugaloos!

From Christmas with Cockburn radio special circa 1992-Bruce Cockburn, Lou Reed, Roseanne Cash and Bob Wasserman, lyrics by T.S. Eliot...

Once in a while I take a break from the rock and metal to spend some time with the Irish music of my youth. December's been that kind of month.
Looking up the Clancies and Makem up on Youtube years ago, I became a fan of these Scottish singers:
This is as intense as any metal song:
The nihilism! I love it!

Just started listening to the album Reality Effect, from the British band, the Tourists. They put out 3 albums, from 1979-1980, then split up. They had one UK Gold Record, with a cover of Dusty Springfield's "I Only Want to Be with You,"
I don't know about the rest of them; but, the singer and the guitarist (with the van dyke) look like they might have a promising future in the music business.....
Yup, that is Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart, before the created Eurythmics. Here they are on Top of the Pops...
Most o the songs on the album were by guitarist Peet Coombs, whose death in 1997 helped bring Lennox and Stewart back together, after Eurythmics had broken up in 1990

The Glitterhouse's Tinker Bell's Mind sent me off to the interior of a giant lotus flower in tranquility forest with the Bugaloos! Great to see some Canadian pop music get a mention! April Wine were one of the few big mainland Canadian acts to play in Nfld, so I have very positive feelings towards them, even apart from liking their music - which I do, though mostly the stuff before First Glance, when they started to change their sound to a more aggressive, less melodic style. Although looking at the track-list for that album there are still at least a couple good tunes on it, Rock and Roll is a Vicious Game and Coming Right Down on Top of Me.
Chilliwack I only ever heard on the radio but I liked all their hits, especially the earlier ones, e.g. Lonesome Mary. This album track has convinced me it'll be worth my while to explore further and look out for Chilliwack's 70s albums on cd.
First I ever heard of The Glitterhouse, love the psychedelic sound.
