I've seen people driving like they want to die more than once... usually when it's on a motorcycle they are the only ones to pay the price. I can't drive (except possibly in a very quiet small town).

My biggest RANT is people TEXTING ALL THE TIME and not paying an attention to their surroundings and the worst OF THEM is the ones that walk on public roads and not paying one iota of traffic of any kind.

It's even worse here at the hospital I work at! You need to walk defensively around the hallways here because staff and visitors all walk face down looking at their phones while texting or internet surfing/videos/music and they will run you over without even noticing! We have a NO CELL PHONE USE WHEN WORKING PATIENT CARE policy and what is the new trend to work around this??? Everyone wearing Bluetooth. What the hell is so important that you need to know instead of doing your damn job?

I gotta rant somewhere. What can I do about my Dad blasting these tv shows with shrieking piercing-voiced women all day? Sometimes I feel like I'm close to losing it after x number of hours. I wish he would watch the British shows about houses, they still seem boring but at least they don't shriek about every damn thing on them. Nothing I can do about all the supposed news shows that also have some of these women, and then all the yelling at you type commercials. Blood pressure rises i can do without! Can anyone recommend some easy to operate (like one button on) wireless headset sound thing that can be added to a tv? If it's complicated he won't use it. He can't hear the phone or doorbell at all anyway so he might as well have that one and I can have some peace (at least when there isn't construction racket or lawn maintenance crews going). The second-hand smoke pollution is enough to ask of me but I am going to have to leave completely if I have this much noise, he just won't take up any activity other than to play guitar and sing every other week at the seniors center (he doesn't seem to want to admit he is a senior himself at 77). He doesn't hear the phone half the time either if he forgets to have it right with him and I have to go upstairs into the noise zone just in case it's important. Man, I just want to shoot the damn tv set when that home channel or CNN is on, all kinds of channels nobody watches besides those too... we even have two nice quietish PBS stations, but they're little kids shows most day times. I can't read, can't watch much on my own... I just stay off the main floor most of the time now... parents! If my BF wasn't rebuilding a deck at his place I'd be on the bus heading south tomorrow. When I have to cook for us I get it done as quickly as I can so I'm not having to hear the tv so close. No fun. I had trouble in school when kids made noise, I dropped out of grade nine three times. Later on I dropped a computer typing class over some girls who were talking away nonstop in that particular class, I even asked them to keep it down and that didn't go well. I'm very sensitive to sound, always have been... I can listen to music loud but noise is just noise and goes to my nerves and scrambles my thoughts. Maybe a hearing aid for him? My Mom is going deaf too but she is a reader and not much into tv (local news, Jeopardy, not much other than those). Thanks for the dumping place, beats throwing pieces of gravel at each other outside which you can only do so much.

If it isn't a solution, it's at least a starting point. I mainly just wanted to say that I sympathize with the awful situation you find yourself in and I hope things improve for you.

Checking them out... I might have found one (there are soooo many products) that is connected but then goes to battery only when disconnected and that might be the ticket. Thanks for the input. If he watched nature shows (at least the non-Irwins/Kratts kinds) or baseball games it wouldn't be an issue. I kept hoping these house flipping/shopping type shows were a passing craze. Is it political to say I want to flee when Kelly-Anne Conway is on a news channel?

Is it political to say I want to flee when Kelly-Anne Conway is on a news channel? Maybe, but it also means you're a normal human being with a sense of basic decency.

Turning the problem around - have you thought of getting noise-cancelling headphones for you? If the problem is that your dad won't wear them, or forgets to charge etc, you could at least mitigate the noise that you're subjected to

I have used a good set of Sony over-the-ears noise-cancelling headphones for ages, but I reserve them mainly for those lawn mowers and similar internal combustion lawn machinery that are super-loud (and there's even rare ones that don't bother me at all). It's not like I want to watch a lot of tv but it can be kind of impossible to if there is something loud on another tv and the show I want to follow has quiet voices in that naturalistic style (whispers at whisper level, explosions at explosion level). We may be getting the exact ones Phil Maurice linked to on amazon!

A rarity and a BIG RAVE FOR THE CYCLIST that I saw coming home (recent) today ... he had on a helmet with a flashing red light, with another flashing red light on the back of his seat and wearing very reflected clothing ... Kudo's for the young man in his 20's today.
