Well the first fallout from the sale of Valiant has hit. Eric Heisserer, screenwriter of Arrival, was supposed to write half of the Harbinger Wars 2 event this summer, but informed Valiant he will no longer write for them the day it was sold and changes to the leadership was made. It's forced a radical revamp of the concept and execution of the event. The one script he had turned in will still be used a sa prologue, but no further scripts will be forthcoming form him, leaving half of the project to be scrapped and the other half changed to work without what he was doing. Rumors indicate he is not the onlt creator who does not want to work with the new owners. -M

Seems like it was only a matter of time.

Another of the architects of Valiant's revival is leaving the company in the wake of the sale... Hunter Gorinson exiting Valiantfrom the article... so he's pretty much the guy responsible for all the positive press coverage that Valiant has garnered since their relaunch and the one who was behind all the efforts to make the Valiant brand better known to the mass market. And now, he's out. -M

And now Valiant EIC Warren Simons has resigned, meaning the guy responsible for bringing all that talent to Valiant because they wanted to work with him is now gone. -M

Was it worth it to see your burgeoning empire crumble away into nothing? Huh?
I mean at this point, they might as well just sell the company back to Acclaim

I have many friends at my Local Comic Store are very unhappy about this and not thrilled about it either. I really have very little history with Valiant and I'm going to find out why it was sold.

They have changed hands more than a few times since then.

They have changed hands more than a few times since then. Valiant probably would have had the same issues whether or not Shooter had been "let go". The comics crash was absolutely detrimental to smaller publishers, though they might have been able to weather the storm had Deathmate gone more smoothly

According to Bleeding Cool, many of the staff at Valiant saw which way the wind was blowing and had their contracts altrered just before the sale to DGM to shorten the non-compete terms of the contract allowing them to get jobs in the industry with Valiant competitors much sooner than they would have been able to (most non-compete clauses I have had in contracts ran 6 months or a year at minimum, BC says the new clauses were laughably short so I'd guess 1-3 months at maximum). Valiant allowed it because they saw which way the wind was blowing too, so it looks like those who knew what was happening had no faith the new owners would support the print division and started prepping for their exits even before the sale happened. Also considering that Diamond recently moved almost every major publisher (adding BOOM! and Dynamite to the front with their own sections to go with Dark Horse, IDW and Iamge) except Valiant to the front of the catalog and left Valiant to languish back in the miscellaneous section, it doesn't look like they have any faith in Valiant's future as a publisher either.

I know a lot of hardcore Valiant fans were upset when Dinesh left, but it's Warren Simons that hurts the most as E-i-C.
I'm hanging on to see what happens.
I love these characters so much, and have followed them from a few years after they launched.
We'll see what happens.
This latest version was so good it will almost undoubtedly drop in quality, but we'll see I guess.

At least it's going to be a slow burn until all the stuff created under Dinesh's tenure trickles out. It's sad, really can't say much more than that

Joe Illidge, most recently editor of Lion Forge Entertainment/Comics Catalyst Prime imprint and formerly with DC where he left under a cloud of controversy, and in the editorial department at Milestone Media before that has been named Executive Editor of Valiant.

Well, maybe there is some silver lining in that storm cloud after all.... I like what Lion Forge has been doing with Catalyst Prime, even if I haven't found the books themselves all that interesting. Curious to see how Joe's going to apply that to Valiant I also can't say enough good things about Milestone either. Shame that it's been taking forever for the relaunch

I too have some hope with Joe Illidge at the helm.
I'm hoping for Valiant.
Not giving up.
