Media responds to its audience. Comic books Back issues and collections of Silver and Bronze Age books in the USA today are mainly bought by men over 50, so... fixed it for you. New comics skew much younger and near an even split between men and women when trades and digital editions are also factored in, especially if you look material sold in the book trade outside Diamond. -M

If you are a straight white American male who was really into superhero comics, than comics in the 70s and 80s were probably better. If you are interested in other things there were some possibilities back then, but there is a lot more available these days.

Uh excuse me but while I am a straight white guy and 37, I wasn't into a Comic book from DC comics until 1987.
My entire childhood from 1983 to 1986 I was into stuff from Marvel and NOW Comics. Few stuff such as NOW Comics Ghostbusters, Marvel and Power Pack, Conan, Groo, Alpha Flight, little bit of green incredible hulk and original Uncanny X Men and some of Spider Man

Hyperbole, guys!
My point was that traditional comic books have an older readership now than they used to. I agree that there's plenty of comic book type material for younger readers; see the other thread where I discussed my 2 and 5 year old sons' appreciation for Dog Man, and for Elephant and Piggie.
