Star Wars #53Star Wars #53 (1981), written by Chris Claremont, art by Carmine Infantino and Walt Simonson That's surprisingly good, considering that I don't like the art of either Infantino or Simonson. The first five pages of that issue, including the splash, were by Walt Simonson and Tom Palmer in the style of Carmine Infantino. The remainder of the issue was modified from a leftover issue of John Carter, pencilled by Infantino.

That's a great Kane/Romita splash. Did anything interesting happen in the next issue?

^That splash is from ASM #96, part of the three part drug issue story arc that went unapproved by the comics code but printed anyway. One of my favourite little arcs involving Green Goblin. Has some fantastic artwork and overall good storytelling. The following ish has a nice battle sequence between the two.
I also may be a bit biased too here, as I love Spidey and because the copy I own of #97 is double signed and the holy grail of my collection.

I read both these books (bought from the stands no less) but my old addled mind put this splash in the wrong issue.

I can't find an image to post, but that page was Sal layouts, not full pencils. That said, his layout was very finished. Really more like pencils without the shading and hatching. It is in the Art of Sal Buscema book. Thanks for posting it tark.
