 Superman #38. Written by Tomasi and Gleason. Art by Davila and Cifuentes. Cover by Ivan Reis. Super Sons of Tomorrow: Part 4. Concludes in Super Sons #12. The first 3 parts were entertaining. Not sure what happened with this chapter. It was a bit confusing with all the time travel. I'm not sure I like the future Tim Drake's new persona "The Savior". LOVED seeing Conner, Cassie & Bart. I'm confused as to what happened during the fight & the last page. Maybe the last part will clear all of this up. The art was OK. 6/10.Yeah this issue, along with the last chapter, felt a little lack luster. I think my main issue is that the threat from Tim's world has never been fully realized on page, I get that in the beginning it was meant to be a mystery but that only works for so long. Eventually you have to unravel the mystery for the threat to make sense and so far that hasn't happened and if it continues to be vague the quality will continue to drop. My understanding: All the Titans were trying to contain Jon's outburst but then Future Tim somehow drew all that energy with him as he got dragged back into Hypertime. Yeah, it was great seeing Conner, Bart, and Cassie and I loved how they just took control of the crisis when they appeared (Their using Tim's severed hand as a time guide was freaky cool). The opening sequence of Aqualad, Starfire, and Kid Flash tracking down the Super Sons was good too. They seem to be setting up a new phase for Future Tim which appears interesting. My only nitpick is how this is all based on Jon's inheriting his father's solar flare power. This first appeared during Johns' turn on the Superman title with Romita JR. Frankly, I didn't like it then and I really don't like it now either. For me, 7/10 but then again, I like crazy timey-wimey stuff like this. |

Rogue & Gambit #1 - by Kelly Thompson with art by Pere Perez
Cerebra has detected the mysterious 'winking out' of mutant signatures around an island area that's home to a major spa/therapy resort company. Fearing something more sinister, Kitty sends Rogue and Gambit to the island to investigate further. The only catch: to provide cover, the pair must pose as a married couple seeking therapy and solace at the resort.
Yeah, the basic outline is cliched, the source of varied rom-coms over the years but this is really what this mini-series is set up to become. Because Thompson absolutely nails the voices and characterization of both lead characters as well as the supporting cast. This reads exactly like two long-time friends and former teammates who were former lovers who are still trying to fathom the depth and strength of their connection. It's funny, witty, charming, and heart-rending cause deep down I still want this pair together.
Perez's art is top-notch, especially his facial cues and reactions. The tone of a very nice cliffhanger suggests this mini is going to be a lot of fun.
