My third favorite thing about Star Wars is the Star Wars films themselves (and, even then, only episodes 4 and up). My second favorite is the toys, but my first favorite thing about Star Wars is celebrating it as a cultural phenomenon, a modern mythology of sorts that we all know and enjoy referencing. Often, instead of watching the films themselves, I prefer to watch homages and analyses of the films. So I thought I'd share my favorite pop culture responses to Star Wars in the hopes that you might share yours as well:
10. Chewbacca Mask Lady
It became too big of a deal and we all got tired of it, but this was so very much fun to watch at first.
9. Family Guy
Family Guy comes and goes with me, and I think these offerings paled in comparison to what Robot Chicken did with the franchise, but they're still fun to watch.
8. SNL Star Wars Auditions (original)
Been years since I've seen the full version of this, and it isn't on Youtube, but the original version of this with Christopher Walken auditoning as Han Solo was utterly priceless.
7. Lego Star Wars
Silly, cute, and incredibly reverent of the original material all at the same time.
6. The Bad Lip Reading Songs
Clever, well crafted, and infectiously fun.
5. That Episode of How I Met Your Mother
I used to love this show, and the episode in which Ted tried to turn his girlfriend on to Star Wars was incredibly telling about our generation in general. Plus, I love her take on Chewbacca.
4. Spaceballs
While not exclusively focused on Star Wars, there's no doubt that the franchise is largely responsible for my third favorite Mel Brooks film.
3. Star Wars with Tommy Wisou
This one probably won't mean anything if you aren't a fan of "The Room" and/or "The Disaster Artist," but it's one of the funniest things I've seen on Youtube in a long long while.
2. Mr. Plinket's review of The Phantom Menace:
Genius. This could have been taught as a college level film class, and it's hilarious too. The only aspect I could do without is the whole basement stripper thing (don't ask).
1. Robot Chicken Star Wars
Ridiculously funny, incisive, and utterly reverent of the source material. This thing points out everything wrong with the series in the funniest, least arrogant way possible, and somehow leaves you loving the films even more as a result.

Shax, if you love the Plinkett reviews then I’d recommend checking out RedLetterMedia on YouTube.
Mike Stoklasa (the voice of Plinkett) is the head of the group. Those guys are hands down the best movie reviewers out there IMO.
They do a great job of breaking down movies on every level and injecting some great comedy in there.

One of my favorite skits from The Richard Pryor Show featured him working at a bar similar to the Mos Eisley Cantina.

I've heard that the reason the Star Trek TV series ('Star Trek: Phase II') planned for the late 1970's got upgraded to film is due to the success of Star Wars. Not sure if the series would have been better - I don't think Leonard Nimoy was planning to be involved and Shatner might have been iffy so it doesn't sound like it - but it does make me wonder what producers took a chance on that they otherwise wouldn't have without Star Wars. Would we still have gotten Red Dwarf for instance? From what I understand, the BBC was leery of sci-fi since it wasn't working out well for them - did they say 'well, look at how well Star Wars did, maybe we should take a chance'?
My personal favorite pop culture response is something they did on Letterman back when they announced the new prequels. After showing bits and pieces of the new stuff, an announcer intones "and for those of you wondering about your old favorites have no fear - they're all back too!" Cut to an overweight, schlubby looking guy dressed as Luke Skywalker. "Time... has not been kind to me".
