Went ahead and started rereading the Tom Strong series in anticipation of this series. I never read until the end of the series the first time around.
While I liked it a lot back in 1999(?), I may have enjoyed it even more this time around. I suspect I may end up rereading and actually finishing the other ABC books.

ABC was by far the best imprint of the time. I read all their stuff.

Tom Strong is a tie-in with The Terrifics that helps give them more exposure. How many people know about Tom Strong or the fact that Moore designated him as a Science Hero instead of superhero ? Rolling them in helps to raise their profile and exposes them to a new generation, keeping them relevant. The Terrifics are the core and the Strong Family secondary players, like the Inhumans. Does it really give them that much more exposure? It's been 18 years since ABC premiered. I'd venture that a decent number of people who will buy The Terrifics either didn't buy Tom Strong (because it's not DC) or don't know who he is. And I know there are a decent number of people, like me, who are far less likely to read this book because Tom Strong and family are included and we don't want them to be. It seems to me that any bump would be minuscule.

Maybe or maybe not about the bump, but, DC feels this book is going to sell and it's a good way to get the Strong family (scientists) more exposure maybe to ramp them up with The Terrifics and later spin them off.
Neither company does enough of that anymore IMO. They just throw them out there to sink (usually) or swim (rarely).

This is off topic, but yeah, that's been a big change in the way new titles are marketed, it seems to me.
In the old days, the publisher/editorial made title decisions, then found a writer and artist for it... fans are buzzing about Wolverine, lets give him a solo! More Avengers? West Coast Avengers it is.
Now, it's all about the pitch. The writer (or writer and artist) tell the publisher the story they want to write, and they say yes or no.

I imagine DC would probably let Lemire write almost any book he wanted to get him back.

DC announced to retailers today that The Terrifics and all the "New Age of DC Heroes Books" have been pushed back and will be resolicited for 2018. For some it's only a month, others it will be longer. They say part of it is to allow them to come out with the Metal/Doomsday Clock issues they spin out of, part of it is to have an issue in the can so retailers can see a full preview before ordering, and part of it is Jim Lee on one of the books and needing more time to finish it I guess. I am sure there's more behind the curtain reasons too, but we'll see.

PREVIEW of The Terrifics in this week's DC books.
I liked what I read. Definitely on my pull list.

I'm very pumped for The Terrifics.
Definitely getting it.
That's the only one of DC's new books I'm definitely getting besides the soon-to-be-announced Hawkman title, and Shazam and the Legion of Super-Heroes, and eventually the JSA.
Besides loving the characters, I especially like done-in-one titles like this that don't have a whole family of titles, much as I like both Superman and Batman and the JLA.

Who else has read this ?
I'm already loving it.
Mr. Terrific in a clash with Simon Stagg and the Dark Universe shows up, along with a DC version of a famous Marvel cosmic villain. Very cool.
As a Legion fan, very happy to see a version of Phantom Girl here too, and her current condition and what her interaction with the team will be.
Plas is cool as always.
Metamorpho will be the wild card here I think.
Loving the last page and how it will continue from there.
Hardly buying any new stuff, but I'm definitely going to continue to get this title.
Most exciting I've been for a current title since the reboot of X-O Manowar.

Jump over to the Off The Racks 2/28/18 for our thoughts. 2/28/18 OTR. I will go ahead & say it: I thought it was "terrific".

Presumably this is Phantom Girl's (grand)mother?

or something like that
I guess we'll find out
I've often thought DC would be smart to further integrate the Legion into the mainstream DCU, somehow

Presumably this is Phantom Girl's (grand)mother? I thought it was Phantom Girl "trapped" here in her past. After all DC Rebirth showed Saturn Girl "stuck" here also.
