After just watching a documentary on Bill Finger (you can watch it on youtube), I find that I don't know the creators of the characters I have been reading all these years/decades. How about we have a thread where we have the character, and their respective creators put together... the writer and artist. Comic books are a visual medium, and the illustration is a very important factor, even though the concept was created by the writer. Case in point, look in the internet on how Bob Kane's Batman would've looked like without Bill Finger's revised illustrations: Here's how Bob Kane's Batman would've looked like. I'm sure if Batman looked like this, we would never have known about Batman these days. Please add your entries as well. Let me start: National Publications/DC: Batman: Created by Bob Kane & Bill Finger Robin: Created by Bill Finger Gotham City: Created by Bill Finger Superman: Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster Wonder Woman: William Moulton Marston Timely/Atlas/Marvel: Captain America: Jack Kirby & Joe Simon Amazing Spider-Man: Stan Lee & Steve Ditko Human Torch (WWII): Carl Burgos Human Torch (Silver Age): Stan Lee & Jack Kirby Submariner (Namor): Bill Everett Mr. Fantastic: Stan Lee & Jack Kirby The Thing: Stan Lee & Jack Kirby Invisible Girl/Woman: Stan Lee & Jack Kirby Thor: Stan Lee & Jack Kirby Punisher: Gerry Conway, John Romita Sr., & Ross Andru Hulk (original): Stan Lee & Jack Kirby Galactus: Stan Lee & Jack Kirby Silver Surfer: Jack Kirby (watch the documentaries, Jack Kirby created this one) Iron Man: Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, Don Heck, & Jack Kirby Wolverine: Len Wein, Herb Trimpe, & John Romita Sr. More to follow...

I am pretty sure the Batcave and Batmobile were also created by Bill Finger. Yeah, I know they are not characters.

I like what happened to Adam warlock. Created by Lee and Kirby , modified by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane and transformed into the character that we know by Jim Starlin. You need all three sets of creators to have the fascinating person that exists now.

Shouldn't Jerry Robinson get co-creator on Robin?

Icctrombone's point about Warlock can also apply to Wolverine - yes, he was created by Wein, Romita and Trimpe, but the character only acquired the traits that eventually made him a superstar when he was being written by Claremont, with, I suspect, considerable input from Byrne.
Speaking of the never uncomplicated X-men: X-men (original team, i.e. Cyclops, Jean Grey/Marvel Girl, Beast, Iceman, Angel and Prof. X): Stan Lee and Jack Kirby Later additions: Havok: Arnold Drake and Don Heck Polaris: Arnold Drake and Polaris Banshee: Roy Thomas and Werner Roth Sunfire: Roy Thomas and Don Heck Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler and (RIP) Thunderbird: Len Wein and David Cockrum Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat: Chris Claremont and John Byrne Rogue: Chris Claremont and Michael Golden
New Mutants (Karma, Mirage/Psyche, Cannonball, Wolfsbane and Sunspot): Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod
And that's just up to the early '80s...

Polaris: Arnold Drake and Polaris New Mutants (Karma, Mirage/Psyche, Cannonball, Wolfsbane and Sunspot): Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod Polaris didn't co-create herself. Jim Steranko drew Lorna Dane's first appearance. I don't think she was called Polaris until X-Men #97 by Claremont and Cockrum. Karma's first appearance was in Marvel Team-Up #100 by Claremont and Frank Miller.

I am pretty sure the Batcave and Batmobile were also created by Bill Finger. Yeah, I know they are not characters. Batcave originated in the serials not the comics. It was a cost saving measure to use as a set they didn't have to build. Finger may have been the first use it in the comics. -M

Oops, sorry. Yeah, Jim Steranko was the co-creator of Lorna Dane/Polaris.

Wolverine was really John Byrne's baby during his first X-MEN run. And I'd wager that the majority of the Japan/Samurai/ninja stuff came from Frank Miller who was only a couple years away from Ronin.

So Bill Finger was the person that added many of the trappings for Batman, who would you credit as doing the same for Superman after Siegel and Shuster ?

According to John Byrne, Claremont was a big fan of Shogun by James Clavell, which included a character named Mariko.

Editor Mort Weisinger One difference is that Finger was there at the beginning. Superman was around a decade and a half before Weisinger became editor. One way of looking at it is that Finger created the roots of Batman while Weisinger created branches off of Superman.

Wonder Woman: William Moulton Marston Marston didn't do the art. The visuals for WW were done by Harry G. Peter. The official, agreed-upon-by-all-parties creator credit for Black Lightning is "... created by Tony Isabella with Trevor Von Eeden". The credit for Deathlok should look similar: created by Rich Buckler with Doug Moench.
