@mrp @mechagodzilla: LOL at Thor defeating the Hulk. Thor has a vast array of powers and every time they get in a fight ... Hulk loses every fight because of Thor's Immortality and that's exactly what mrp said about it.

As part of the SyFy 25th anniversary celebration, SyFy Wire is interviewing genre related celebs about their geek habits, using the same set of questions. There have been some interesting answers. You can see a sample, as they interview Glenn Hetrick SFX artist and judge on SyFy's Face Off here and can find other interviews on the site (they did Grant Morrison for one, it's the most comic oriented one so far, though I don't suggest Confessor read it because of his Star Wars comments ) Here are the questions they use, though interviewees can pick and choose which to answer it seems... The one thing I geek out over the most is: Dragon Age or Star Wars or Harry Potter The first thing I remember geeking out over is: Star Wars
The science fiction/fantasy creator I most respect is: Jacqueline Carey
My geeky guilty pleasure is: 1982 film Conan the Barbarian
The current state of science fiction in three words: Could be better.
The biggest genre game-changer of the last 25 years: Pixar Films
The best quote from anyone in the genre, real or fictional, is:
The best genre movie of the last 25 years is: Harry Potter Films
The best genre series of the last 25 years is: True Blood HBO Series
The best comic book or graphic novel of the last 25 years is: Can't choose.
The best video game of the last 25 years is: Dragon Age Series
The best genre theme song or soundtrack of the last 25 years is: True Blood Opening Song
A movie that desperately needs a remake is: The Andromeda Strain
On the flipside, a movie that should never ever be remade is: Most of them.
The genre character I most admire: Wonder Woman or Batwoman Because: Independent, powerful women who love other women. Never kowtow to anyone. When knocked down get right back up. Share many similarities with myself.
The genre character I most despise: Batman Because: Too broody and arrogant, Takes self too seriously and so over done. Does not respect his peers enough. Overrated power wise.
The genre character I love that no one else seems to pay attention to is: Dazzler
If I could live in any fictional universe or reality, it would be: Harry Potter witch world or Xanth Because: They are both really fun, full or wonder and relativity safe for women.
A scene from a movie that scared the ever-living sh*t out of me was: Oddly enough. When I first saw Return of the Jedi (I was 14ish) for a second there I actually thought Luke was going to die and the Rebellion destroyed. To this day, I still remember how hard my heart was beating in my chest. It was really quite traumatic.
The most underrated sci-fi/fantasy movie of all time: The Incredible Hulk and/or the first two Fantastic Four films
The most overrated sci-fi/fantasy movie of all time is: The Nolan Batman films.
The fictional character with the best style is:
The best Batman was: Live Action - Adam West or Ben Affleck, Animated 90's Batman Series
The LOTR character I’d like to be is: Galadriel
The LOTR character I’d actually be is: Eowyn
If I could time-travel I would: Go to the future.
If I could have one superpower, it would be: Ageless Immortality with Magic like Dr. Strange
Which superpower comes with the biggest drawbacks: flight, invisibility, or telekinesis? Invisibility. People wouldn't trust you and assume you are spying on them.
If I were a hero my sidekick would be: An Amazon
The Hogwarts sorting hat would put me in: Ravenclaw
My patronus would be: A tiger
On a voyage through space, my captain would be: Captain Lone Starr
If I could pick one genre vehicle, my ride would be: Many pointed Hart
People in fantasy tales are always British because: Yanks have funny accents.
In a fight between Dumbledore and Gandalf, who would win? Dumbledore EASY. Phhttt.. Gandalf used magic like five times in the whole damn series. I'm not even sure he was a real Wizard.
In a fight between Picard and Kirk, who would win? Battle of Wits goes to Picard, Battle of Fists goes to Kirk
In a fight between Wonder Woman and Superman, who would win? Depends of what version of either DC is using at the time and too many other variables to list. The conservative/traditional money is on Superman but the clever money is on Diana. Could go either way. In a fight between Hulk and Thor, who would win? Stan Lee has stated more than once, one of the reasons they created Thor was for the specific reason to reign in the Hulk. Therefore, Thor. Until Stan says otherwise, has to be Thor.
In six words or less, what words of wisdom do you have for fellow fans? Respect other fans, always I thought it might be interesting to see what folks around here answers were to some of these. I will fill out my answers here in a minute but it will take a bit I'm sure. I'll post it when I finish. -M

The best genre theme song or soundtrack of the last 25 years is:True Blood Opening Song Not a big fan of the show (my wife was though), but I love the opening song by Jace Everett, it's on our road trip play list for the car... -M PS My wife is also a big Jacqueline Carey fan.Her books are among the small group of fantasy novels that survived my wife's portion of the culling we just did.

The one thing I geek out over the most is: exciting scientific discoveries or technological advances. I cried when Cassini died.
The first thing I remember geeking out over is: a comic strip featured in the back pages of a kid's magazine titled "Pomme d'Api". It featured a little Indian and I have no idea what its title was or what the stories were like. Just that I eagerly waited for the next story, for all that I was three years old. (Couldn't read it either... my parents had to do it).
The science fiction/fantasy creator I most respect is: Tough one. Probably Tolkien for the sheer scale of his oeuvre.
My geeky guilty pleasure is: Perry Rhodan. I know it's not good literature! But it's so addictive!!!
The current state of science fiction in three words: TOO-MANY-FRANCHISES
The biggest genre game-changer of the last 25 years: Game of thrones, the TV show. It seems to have made the powers that be aware of the potential of a well-made, well-funded fantasy series. (GoT is riding on LotR's coattails, but LotR could have been seen as a one-shot anomaly).
The best quote from anyone in the genre, real or fictional, is: "... and understanding is happiness" (from the Rama series by A.C. Clark and Gentry Lee).
The best genre movie of the last 25 years is: Arrival
The best genre series of the last 25 years is: Kaamelott
The best comic book or graphic novel of the last 25 years is: So many to choose from. We're talking from 1992 on, so... Le Décalogue, by Frank Giroux and various artists.
The best video game of the last 25 years is: I don't play video games. Tetris.
The best genre theme song or soundtrack of the last 25 years is: Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.
A movie that desperately needs a remake is: Dune (by Denis Villeneuve, naturally!)
On the flipside, a movie that should never ever be remade is:
Because the first one was so crappy: too many to count. Because it's already perfect: 2001.
The genre character I most admire: Laureline. So mature, so funny, so smart.
The genre character I most despise: Venom. Because: I hate spin-off characters like that from the get-go, although a few manage to transcend their origins and become interesting (She-Hulk, for example). Venom just seemed to pander to fanboys right from the start and later attempts to rehabilitate him rang hollow (and destroyed Flash Thompson for me).
The genre character I love that no one else seems to pay attention to is: Dani Futuro
If I could live in any fictional universe or reality, it would be: Here, but with my family intact and everyone in good health. Because: it would be better than any Star Trek, Star Wars or Middle-Earth universes.
A scene from a movie that scared the ever-living sh*t out of me was: The twins in the corridor from The Shining.
The most underrated sci-fi/fantasy movie of all time: David Lynch's Dune. It's actually pretty awesome.
The most overrated sci-fi/fantasy movie of all time is: Avatar. Dances with wolves with Smurfs. IN 3D!!!
The fictional character with the best style is: Patrick Jane
The best Batman was: Bruce Wayne
The LOTR character I’d like to be is: That guy in the fourth row during the Battle of Fort Helm, who managed to survive and went home to his wife and kids with enough stories for a lifetime, and who lived to a ripe old age. Merry would be fine too.
The LOTR character I’d actually be is: Frodo, with too many responsibilities for my limited capacities.
If I could time-travel I would: not
If I could have one superpower, it would be: the power of healing people, like the X-Men's Triage.
Which superpower comes with the biggest drawbacks: flight, invisibility, or telekinesis? Invisibility, as it gets you stuck in places you don't have the key to.
If I were a hero my sidekick would be: useful and funny
The Hogwarts sorting hat would put me in: detention
My patronus would be: a platypus
On a voyage through space, my captain would be: competent
If I could pick one genre vehicle, my ride would be: the space gem
People in fantasy tales are always British because: old English tales should be told with old English accents. Besides, the Brits have as much class when they speak English as the French do when they speak French. We from the colonies suffer from accent envy.
In a fight between Dumbledore and Gandalf, who would win? Harh!!! Gandalf is a Maia, the equivalent of a bloody archangel, and Dumbledore is a guy who died from pricking his finger.
In a fight between Picard and Kirk, who would win? Kirk, mostly because Picard wouldn't see the need to fight and would ask, after being clobbered, "are you feeling better, now?"
In a fight between Wonder Woman and Superman, who would win? With apologies to the lady, there are few entities who can defeat Superman...
In a fight between Hulk and Thor, who would win? I'd say Hulk, if it was just a matter of punching each other until one falls.
In six words or less, what words of wisdom do you have for fellow fans? Don't forget about real life!

The most underrated sci-fi/fantasy movie of all time: The War of the Worlds starring Gene Barry - Not one friend of mine ever mentioned it. I rewatched this within the last couple years as it was shown on TCM and thought it holds up pretty well. Great looking special effects and the color palate they used was just so eerie in a campy scifi sort of way.

“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”
― Isaac Asimov I posted this same quote in the Favorite Quotes thread. I think out of context it might come of as a little elitist but it's also almost slighty scary when looking at the world today. I posted a similar Carl Sagan quote in the same thread as well. The most underrated sci-fi/fantasy movie of all time: Snowpiercer!!!Someone recommend this one to me not long ago. It was a pretty good movie.

A movie that desperately needs a remake is: The Blob

The genre character I most admire: There are so many with admiral traits it's hard to narrow it down to just one.
The genre character I most despise: Despise is a strong word. I'd say I was apathetic towards characters I dislike.
The genre character I love that no one else seems to pay attention to is: Animal Man
If I could live in any fictional universe or reality, it would be: Rick and Morty Because: with a portal gun I could literally travel back and forth to any alternate dimensions I want.
A scene from a movie that scared the ever-living sh*t out of me was: the Skeksis from The Dark Crystal.
The most underrated sci-fi/fantasy movie of all time: Zardoz (1974)

The fictional character with the best style is: Plastic Man

If I could time-travel I would: go to a bunch of concerts Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, Rolling Stones, too many to list really.
If I could have one superpower, it would be: the ability to acquire multiple powers.
Which superpower comes with the biggest drawbacks: flight, invisibility, or telekinesis? Invisibility because you have to walk around naked.
If I were a hero my sidekick would be: an equal partner or team member.
The Hogwarts sorting hat would put me in: I've never watched or read Harry Potter so I have no idea what a sorting hat is.
My patronus would be: wtf is a patronus?
On a voyage through space, my captain would be: Tom Baker Doctor Who
If I could pick one genre vehicle, my ride would be: the TARDIS
People in fantasy tales are always British because: That's factually incorrect.
In a fight between Dumbledore and Gandalf, who would win? I assume Gandalf because I've never read Harry Potter.
In a fight between Picard and Kirk, who would win? a fist fight? definitely Kirk. In ships? most likely Picard.
In a fight between Wonder Woman and Superman, who would win? Superman is vulnerable to magic and Wonder Woman wouldn't hesitate to kill him if need be.
In a fight between Hulk and Thor, who would win? Thor
In six words or less, what words of wisdom do you have for fellow fans? Stop taking your hobbies so seriously.

In ships? most likely Picard. In a fight between Wonder Woman and Superman, who would win? Superman is vulnerable to magic and Wonder Woman wouldn't hesitate to kill him if need be. I've totally forgot about that book and I wished that I've mentioned that ... fantastic book! About Batman, you can't go wrong with either answer! ... Neal Adams is one of my favorite artist that did the Caped Crusader. Good answer regarding Picard and Kirk ... Sounds very Reasonable Jesse! Excellent answer regarding Wonder Woman and Superman; Magic Lasso is the edge that WW needs to fight Superman!

The best quote from anyone in the genre, real or fictional, is: "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent." - Isaac Asimov - Great Quote The best genre series of the last 25 years is: Farscape - I tried sooooo hard to get into this show and Claudia Black is one of my all time favs, but the whole "muppet" thing just ruined it for me. My "suspension of disbelief" just can't get past them. Which superpower comes with the biggest drawbacks: flight, invisibility, or telekinesis? Invisibility because you have to walk around naked. - See this sounds good in theory but you will find walking around nekkid you get cold, and you are more apt to get hurt from being so exposed. Just sitting down on a itchy chair will drive you nuts! And for women "built" like me, moving faster than a very slow walk can get painful.
