This is sort of a funny story in a sad sort of way. I was in a few physical altercations as an adult but I wouldn’t say an all-out fight. I’m very easy going and consider myself a pacifist, that being said, I grew up fairly confident in who I am and do have my limits.
Back in my second year of Uni, I was living on the East Coast (US). One night a bunch of us students decided to go out to a local bar/restaurant and have a few drinks. As it so happened, at this place, there was also dancing and all that. Well, I danced with a few of my friends but for the most part I just sat and watched.
Well there was this one couple of blokes, who I didn’t know, who kept asking me to dance and I kept refusing them. I didn’t know them and I didn’t like the looks of them either. They became rather insistent about it and eventually I gave them a reason that they really couldn’t counter, which they found quite offensive. Luckily for me, some of my friends with me there that night were rather large and imposing so, these two guys decided not to press their luck.
When we all decided to go home is when things got all pear shaped. I had parked in a completely different direction than the rest of my friends which meant I had to walk to my car alone. Right as I turned a corner around the block, WHAMO, I get hit in the face with what turned out to be a baseball bat. Somehow, I remain conscious but of course I hit the ground and am very groggy.
While I am down, these two losers are kicking me and swearing and calling me all sorts of horrible names. In a panic, I rolled over to face the ground to make sure they didn’t hit me in the face again.
Of course, at this point I was scared to death and was still a bit groggy. But then, the guy holding the bat dropped it and started walking over to me. I won’t tell you the things they were suggesting they were going to do to me but I was scared out of my mind.
Well as it so happens, this all happened at a point in my life where I had a few things going in. One, I was just a few weeks away from testing for my black belt in a very aggressive form of karate. Two, I was also a competitive level power lifter. Add to all of that, I grew up on a farm (you get very strong living on a farm, even as a girl) and you have someone wasn’t a slouch to take advantage of.
When the guy approaching me stepped closer, I shot forward and with a few grappling moves I break the bloke’s knee. I then scrambled to reach the bat and was able to retrieve it and stand up.
Keep in mind, at this time I’m bleeding from the mouth profusely (from being hit with the bat) and my whole face is totally messed up. No doubt I was quite a sight to behold!
After that, to make a long story short, the two blokes had to be taken away in ambulances by the time I was done with them. I ended up with two black eyes, totally bruised and bloodied face, a mouth full of loose teeth (that were thankfully all saved) and three fractured ribs. BUT! I drove myself to the hospital!
Luckily for me, by the time the last guy hit the ground, a local police officer drove by and was able to secure everything. By the time it was all said and done, everyone was quite amused that a 5'7", ginger headed, Scottish girl put two, full grown, good old boys in the hospital.
Not the best night in my life but I thanked fates that I was able to get through it alive.
