One thing that surprised me while compiling my list was that there were a lot of modern comics that I really liked. I thought I would only have pre-1986 stories on my list.

Just a small update:
Still tallying, and it's proving to be an even bigger and messier job than I imagined. The good news is that, only partway in, I can already see that we definitely have well over 100 sagas that were either chosen by multiple people or ranked in the top 10 of an individual's list. No one's #11 pick is going to make the list on its own, and it's likely that most (if not all) of the #10 picks won't make the Top 100 on their own either.
This is going to be a GOOD list. But it will take me a while longer to finish tabulating. We probably won't see a final list until late next week.
Biggest surprises for me thus far: Dark Knight Returns likely won't make the Top 100, and the Legion of Superheroes are currently in the Top 3.

It's possible that other people did what I did and left out Mini series. I totally avoided JLA/Avengers, Infinity Gauntlet, Dark Knight etc. I felt that creative teams should be rewarded for grinding out a masterpiece in the midst of a regular run, as opposed to having a "dream Team" assembled to do a mini.

But that could be balanced out by me, who, with the exception of the Ditko/Lee Dr. Strange run avoided parts of a whole by multiple creators and didn't include anything in my top 10 that wasn't part of an entire series by a single creative team, wanted to credit a singular vision for a complete story and not a good chapter in a longer story with weaker parts when I could. -M

I think we did the same thing. I didn't choose Avengers 1-300 because some of the 300 were weak issues. I like the " lightning in the bottle" feel to a run when the story and art team are in synch in a regular series. Infinity Gauntlet was a dream team of Jim Starlin and George Perez( at the beginning) and the odds are that it was going to be great. The same with Watchmen.

I apologize that tabulation is taking so long. Doesn't help that I got the keys to my new house last week and just started teaching again last week too. Thanks much for your patience, everyone!

After coming down with the flu for a week (while still setting up the new house and teaching full time!) and then vigilantly standing by my six year old's side while she had a dangerously high temperature for three days and nights, I am back to tabulating. I believe I'll have the final results by this weekend.
Thanks again for your patience, everyone! A lot of life happening right now...

No really...it's all good. It will get done when it gets done.

Well yeah, that didn't happen today. Spent more time than I expected working on the new house this weekend. Sorry, folks. I am close to done; it's mostly just double checking and dressing the thing up that are left to do.
