Ok, since I read most of these this year...

Best New Series: Black Hammer, by Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston


Didn't do much for me.  Not grim and gritty per se, but I like a little more fun in my superheroes.  Art was nice, though!  


Best Limited Series: The Vision, by Tom King and Gabriel Walta


Read the first volume.  Really, really creepy!  One of the best Marvel comics ever, for sure.


Best Continuing Series: Saga, by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples


I'm a little behind on this but I'm enjoying it.  Probably in the top 20% of Image books.  


Best Graphic Album—Reprint: Demon, by Jason Shiga (First Second)



He draws those squat little people lookin' dudes, right?  I like his work, generally, but haven't read this.

Best Reality-Based Work: March, by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell


Yeah, book 3 came out this year.  I figured this was going to be a boring history lesson, but I thought the whole thing was really good and always entertaining.  The artwork really sold the drama.  


Best Graphic Album—New: Wonder Woman: The True Amazon, by Jill Thompson


I got this out of the library but then went out of town 'till it was due and brought it back unread.  I like Jill Thompson a lot, though!  The reason I've read most of these books is that the Iowa City Library is ammmmmazing.  


Best Writer: Brian K. Vaughan (Paper Girls, Saga)


I still contend that X Machina and Y: The Last Man were really poor narratives, and among the worst written Vertigo comics ever.  

Paper Girls and Saga were both pretty good, I guess.  But I'm still not happy.  


Best Writer/Artist: Sonny Liew (The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye)


I am totally down with best publication design for this book, and it was an incredibly ambitious and (obviously) labor intensive comic.

I don't remember it being partucularly well written, though.


Best Penciller/Inker—Individual or Team: Fiona Staples (Saga)


Eh, got no problem with this.  I'm not sure who my favorite mainstream artist is right now, and I can't think fo


Best Coloring: Matt Wilson (Cry Havoc, Paper Girls, The Wicked + The Divine; Black Widow, The Mighty Thor, Star-Lord)


I liked Paper Girls but the coloring in Wicked + the Divine seemed kind of artificial and computer-y.  I don't remember anything about Black Widow and I haven't read the other two.  Not sure about this one.  

Best Lettering: Todd Klein (Clean Room, Dark Night, Lucifer; Black Hammer)


I don't pay enough attention to lettering.  Clean Room was a really good series!  I would have given it to whoever does Squirrel Girl, 'cause they have to cram a lot of text into a bunch of teeny, teeny panels.  


Best Digital Comic: Bandette, by Paul Tobin and Colleen Coover


I've seen previews of this but didn't read any.  I like Colleen Coover a lot.


Best Webcomic: Bird Boy, by Anne Szabla


Never heard of it.  Not a webcomics guy.


Best Cover Artist: Fiona Staples (Saga)


They REALLY LIKE Fiona Staples.  I can't picture any of the covers in my head.  Were they that good.

Great, great, great, great, great.  Beautifully designed book, one of the best things I read all year.

Yeah, completely agree.  Comics Panel is my favorite place to learn about new comics on the entire 'net right now.  


Best Comics-Related Book: Krazy: George Herriman: A Life in Black and White, by Michael Tisserand


Didn't get to it yet.  Not a huge Krazy Kat fan, but it's on the list and I'm actually pretty psyched for this.  


Best Academic/Scholarly Work: Superwomen: Gender, Power, and Representation, by Carolyn Cocoa


Not really my purview.  Didn't read.  


Best Publication Design: The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye, designed by Sonny Liew


Yes.  This was a very nicely designed book.  


Best Short Story: “Good Boy,” by Tom King and David Finch, in Batman Annual #1


I think this turned up at Heidi MacDonald's Comics Beat.  Pretty good.  I read the first trade of Tom King's Batman and was sorely dissapointed, but this was a good story.  


Best Single Issue/One-Shot: Beasts of Burden: What the Cat Dragged In, by Evan Dorkin, Sarah Dyer, and Jill Thompson



Shoot, I missed this one.  I thought Beasts of Burden was on my pull list.  I remember BoB winning a bunch of Eisner's before.  

Best Anthology: Love Is Love, edited by Sarah Gaydos and Jamie S. Rich


This was a big deal and a huge seller.  I SHOULD read it.  Lemme see fi the library has it.  


Russ Manning Promising Newcomer Award: Anne Szabla, writer/artist of Bird-Boy


This is the webcomic guy?  Geez, the Eisner's decide they like maybe four artists every year and give them all the awards.  


Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award: Joe Ferrara, for work in prostate cancer awareness, and Mark Andreyko, for the Love Is Love anthology.



Huh.  I am glad this award exists, I guess.

Best Publication for Kids (ages 9-12): Ghosts, by Raina Telgemeier


JUST read my first Raina Telgemeier book last month.  It wasn't this one.  She is very good at what she does and her stuff sells in the millions. Really glad she exists.  


Best Publication for Teens (ages 13-17): The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, by Ryan North and Erica Henderson


Love, love, love, love, love, love, love this book.  One of two Marvel/DC comics I buy in singles.  


Hall of Fame: Judges’ Choices: Milt Gross, H.G. Peter, Antonio Prohias, Dori Seda

Voters’ Choices: Gilbert Hernandez, Jaime Hernandez, George Perez, Walter Simonson, James Starlin


Prohias created Spy vs. Spy.  I had to google that.  Nothing I will argue with here!  Glad to see Dori Seda and H. G. Peter get some recognition.  

Best Archival Collection/Project—Comic Books: The Complete Wimmin’s Comix, edited by Trina Robbins, Gary Groth, and J. Michael Catron

Huh.  I've always wanted to read this and didn't know it was reprinted.  Cool!
