As requested in the Hee Haw thread, here is a Soul Train thread! I remember watching Soul Train on Saturday mornings and seeing some of my favorite singers (and some I had never heard of) lip syncing their hits. I remember the dancers dancing down the line and the Soul Train Scramble Board--sponsored by Sprite Cola! Don Cornelius was a great host and the 70s and 80s fashions were totally awesome! I first started watching on our local CBS affiliate, then it moved to a UHF station, and ultimately we watched it on WGN when we got cable.

I actually watched this only on syndication in the late 80's with my ex-girlfriend at the time and it was pretty good but the music wasn't my cup of tea but I do enjoy it from time to time. The fashions were unreal and my ex-girlfriend wanted to copy some of their styles and pretty soon the 1/3 of her wardrobe is like that.

i really dug this show, loved Don Cornelius, wished he'd been in tv/film/VO's. the stage set up with the multi-platforms was visually interesting and the cameramen were often creative.
there was such a lovely, warm, happy, 'let everybody love everybody/be cool fool' vibe to it.

you can watch hours of those lines on Youtube. . I like this one, because it's 60's, 70's, 80's I put it on in the background while working and enjoy the music while sneaking glances at it

the beauty of Soul Train was it was a true cultural/racial melting-pot (versus the abuse of the term 'diversity', these days).
and never took itself too seriously.
