It takes a lot to get me to spring full cover price for a new comic.
Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV, is a pretty solid team, and the art team of Andy Kubert, Danny Miki, Jim Lee, Scott Williams, John Romita Jr and Krause Janson is worth gambling on.
I'm glad I bit.
This opening issue, Dark Days : The Forge, is oversized and crammed full of some sort of dark universe mystery with the revised origin of Carter Hall Hawkman and Hawkgirl, as well as echoes of Katar Hol Hawkman and Hawkgirl and the mystery of nth metal, which is going to be a really big deal in this series.
Hawkman is a character I've long felt could be a really strong B-lister if done correctly. I'm hoping this mega-event gives him new life (see what I did there) and positions him in the upper end of the D.C. pantheon where he should be, much like Aquaman has finally achieved.
Players include Duke Thomas, Hal Jordan Green Lantern, Superman, Mister Miracle, Ganthet, Aauaman, Mr Terrific, the Joker, and others.
Really looking forward to more.

When I first heard about this for some reason I assumed it was an Elseworlds kind of story but after reading it that is definitely not the case. I wasn't looking forward to this initially but now I'm kind of curious what's gonna happen.

I loved The Forge.
It's great to see Snyder tying so much of his New 52 Batman stories together and I'm stoked for everything coming next.

I really enjoyed Dark Days: The Casting. Both these prelude one-shots were stellar.
Now the waiting for Metal starts.

I think The Casting was more interesting than the previous issue. I'm definitely interested in how this event plays out.

I'm liking the conflict between the bats and the hawks, and even how they've looped the Blackhawks into it. Very clever !
I also like how the premise is based on an other dimensional entity with a logical Batman connection, hence, the dark Batmen characters.

So far, I find it very underwhelming, and I like both Snyder and Tynion... The Art doesn't help as I find it mostly ugly as F***, even though I'll admit that Romita is at least trying to challenge himself. But Kubert, oh my... Jim Lee is gonna be Jim Lee, so always a hard pass for me, unless the guy suddenly decides to learn about real anatomy and cloth drawing...

I keep seeing Dc books with Metal Plastered on solicited books . What Is it? An Event, another universe ? I'm not sure but there are a handful of local shops having midnight release parties for it tonight. I believe it is an event launching with the return of Scott Snyder and GregCapullo working together on a Batman related book.I guess other titles will spin out of it. All I keep seeing is the image of Batman with a battle axe by Capullo. All I have been able to work out is that is involved evil Batman doppelgangers invading our world as it's sort of core premise and will involve the DC multiverse. -M edit to add: there was another thread here about it I noticed when I was catching up on the site when I got back, but I didn't do more than skim it

I don't follow Dc or even new comics much. Thus the question , which you didn't really answer Unless you mean it's all built around Hawkman's Ninth Metal.

Yes, it's a summer event but a Batman / Hawkman return too by Snyder and Capullo.
The Nth metal came from another universe and is somehow related to a Batman-esque monster god of evil.
This story will involve the JLA fighting evil Batman-esque JLA dopplegangers from this dark universe.
New concepts spinning out of this include totally new characters and titles as well as a new Challengers of the Unknown, The Terrifics - a DC version of the FF with Mr Terrific as leader with a monster-esque Metamorpho, Plastic Man and Phantom Girl.
I've read the previous two issues before today's first issue and have really enjoyed them.

It's all good.
I don't nearly buy what I used to.
Working through my unread backlog mostly except for stuff like this.
