Written by Dan Abnett. Art and Cover by Brett Booth and Norm Rapmund. The Titans face off against the Fearsome Five. Bumblebee saves the day. Mal suits up again as Herald. However the FF get away. Before they do Psimon "steals" some of Karen's memories as revenge. As a result she no longer remembers Mal or their child. Dick does some digging & discovers Meta Solutions was financed by HIVE. This story was a mixed bag. The good: the re-intro of Mal & Karen as Titans. The interactions between the various Titans. The set up to a conflict with HIVE. The bad: the fight felt rushed. Psimon's taking Karen's memories. Abnett continues to capture the individual personalities of the Titans well. I like the emphasis on the friendships between the members. I know there are others that do not like Booth's art but I like his kinetic art style on this title. I think it was a good idea to feature the original Titans instead of trying to "copy" the Wolfman/Perez Titans era. 9/10.I actually really dislike Mal and Karen.. they feel too forced in for the sake of diversity to me, and they're both kinda boring. Otherwise, I'm enjoying the book though. It'll be interesting to see how the crossover works, with the Raven, Starfire, and Beast Boy interacting with Nightwing and Donna... they've (sorta) established that Dick and Kori were in a relationship in the past still, but with no details.. then there's the fact that she had a thing with Roy in Red Hood and the Outlaws (though I'm not sure if that actually counts anymore).

Well Mal & Karen were around towards the end of the original Titans run way before Wolfman/Perez relaunched the title. I do agree they are sort of boring. I was happy to see them more for nostalgia than anything. I don't think they will stick around. I think the book should focus on the core group with guests coming in & out for specific arcs.

Gotham Academy #8 Plot: 'Second Semester' has, unfortunately, taken a very fun, manga style kid detective book and turned it into a cypher for the author to explore the founding of Gotham City... a bit like they did with 'The Kents' back in the day. Olive's secret history is revealed (which is no suprise at all if you've been reading all along), gets possessed, and Batman shows up. The 'last' story (so I guess it's getting cancelled soon) will be finishing that exploration of history through Olive being crazy/possessed whatever. Meh. It's too bad they ruined such a good thing, I can only hope at least Maps ends up somewhere else and not forever in DCU limbo. 4/10

Yeah, the 2nd series has been really disappointing, though it really starting going down hill before that. I'd probably drop it if it wasn't about to end, but at this point I do want to see if they set up any of the characters to be viable later.

American Gods #2Written by P. Craig Russell Art by P. Craig Russell and Scott Hampton Summary: Fresh out of jail, Shadow Moon finds himself recruited as a bodyguard for the enigmatic Mr. Wednesday, only to be interrupted and kidnapped by the dangerous Technical Boy, who wants answers as to Wednesday's plans. Plot: The narration remains strong, and the gradual, almost conversational pacing of the story continues to be engrossing in the second installment of P. Craig Russell's adaptation of Neil Gaimen's American Gods but I felt there was a lack of a sense of awe and confusion here that was wonderfully present in the novel. When Shadow would encounter mythical characters in the novel you'd feel that they stuck out, a sense of strange wonder would fill you but here it all seems so normal. The meeting with the Leprechaun and the Technical boy just come off as chance encounters in a typical action story than a weird mix of fantasy and reality. Art: Hampton's attention to detail, especially in the bar scene, give it a true feeling of reality. The bar felt lived in, and the distinct people populating it didnt feel like just pieces of the back ground but actual characters.
Grade:7/10 Really looking forward to reading this after it's collected
