Who's going to be our Dorothy Lamour? If I were you, I think I'd just go with ... Dorothy Lamour!

I was thinking of someone a little less... dead.

This is shaping up to be one hell of an idea. Two faux Amish militants on a cross country trip, cross-dressing and dead starlets. I hope John Byrne appreciates how much effort and creativity went into the absurd plot to shave his beard.

Not to mention the wacky hi-jinks that ensue when Kurt & I plot to shave each other's beards en route out of enmity arising from our bitter disagreements over the respective merits of the art of Frank Robbins & Jack Sparling &/or the music of the Eagles.

Who's going to be our Dorothy Lamour? We've never compared our taste in women. Cei-U! I summon the wish list! You tell us! Myself, I'd probably ask for Monica Bellucci or Salma Hayek but it's your and Dan's movie!

Off the top of my head, I'm probably offering the job to Juno Temple ...
... though of course Eliza Dushku remains a very viable option as well.

Being trapped in a car on a road trip with Gina Bellman wouldn't make it so bad either.

I summon the Latin lovin'!

"Wally Coppage" posted the following post on the Byrne board which I hope doesn't fall on deaf ears:
"New member. This will be my introduction.
Have the sarcastic comments on this forum become so untenable that such a thing needed to be implemented? It seems to me that sarcasm, by its very nature, is a crucible that one must pass without cues or visual aids."

Some of the amusing things Byrne has said that struck me as funny: 1. He stopped watching Myth Busters in protest because, in one experiment, they killed some bees. (I respect this, since I do think it's sadistic to just kill living creators...but there was a purpose to this...) This makes me love him even more. I was on that forum briefly a few years back and Byrne didn't bother me so much as some of his other fans. Real nasty bunch, some of them.

See, and maybe it's just my age, or maybe it's because, honestly, I work too damn hard in life to surround myself with rotten people in real life, or in e-life, on my time off. Nasty fans have made me shrink away from a few things before.

I'm resurrecting/bumping up this topic to note that over the weekend, I received my second ban/suspension from the JBF, due to the 'failure to kiss the ring' that Icctrombone mentioned. That's actually an ironically true sentiment, because Byrne has a passionate and fervent devotion to promoting his atheist viewpoint, and my attempts to point out the irony of the situation have been the cause of both of my run-ins with him . In this case, Byrne acknowledged the passing of Billy Graham with 'Condolences to the family...and as far as the rest, better that I remain silent'. Others echoed that sentiment, and nobody among the first few replies engaged in any 'speaking ill of the dead'. I commented that 'This is the best way to discuss religion on the internet'. Finally, someone ranted that the fact Graham was lying in state at the Capitol, and it turned into the standard 'I'm an atheist, and that's why religion sucks' type of post that are scattered all over the main 'Forum' section(he has no'Off-Topic' section, preferring that anything that doesn't fall under specific sub-topics be on 'Page 1' of the Forum.) In response, I commented that the complaining user had 'blown' the purpose of the thread, and when others began to defend him, and it started to turn into more of the typical atheist-centric discussion, I said that 'reading a bunch of atheists' complaints about religion is no different from reading the religious side complaining about atheism...at the end of the day, both sides end up with their heads lodged irretrievably up their butts', and mentioned that this turn in the topic was why I 'usually' avoid the atheism stuff on there. Byrne replied simply, 'Let me help make that easier for you'...and suspended my membership.
I've felt for years that the JBF is less 'John Byrne's official forum to discuss comics and other things', and more 'John Byrne's forum for diatribes, and occasional discussion of comics'. For years, in two different stints, using two different e-mail addresses, I contributed, and usually held my tongue, when his 'People who don't think like me are bad' shtick got a little too heavy. I've enjoyed much of Byrne's work over the years, and I enjoyed his takes on pop culture(even though he's kind 'get off my lawn' on pretty much everything). But personally, the guy is a paranoid sort of 'touchy', and in the end, you just can't avoid every instance of him 'pushing' views that 99 percent of the members just parrot without thinking. Ultimately, in spite of some interesting discussions on varied topics, it boiled down to being kicked out of a party in the house of someone I guess I never liked that much in the first place John Byrne...talented pro...but kind of a dick.

Once upon a time I too was a member for all of a few months. Like Byrne's art, not particularly his views but at times he and site members did have some good insights and remarks. Over the few months though it became very clear that you were either a Byrne yes man or you weren't welcome to express yourself. So I just quit. Cold Turkey. Nothing to enjoy in the site. Even the threads followed the Byrne ideology enough that it wasn't entertaining or informative.
CCF is a home where we can agree to disagree. Everything in life doesn't have to be painful or hurt. I so much prefer to have an intelligent conversation without it turning ugly or into rants or verbal fist fights.
