I ran across a post on the board somewhere that referred to the ''old board.'' Is this board version 2? Any other history of the board that's noteworthy? Thanks.

This board was created in the aftermath of the deletion of the forums at comicbookresources.com ("CBR"). We had a nice community feeling in the Classic Comics board at CBR, and then suddenly all of that history was wiped out and the newly-reconstituted CBR forums didn't initially include a Classics board. Shaxper took the initiative to create this place, and most of the old Classics board community migrated here. We were joined by some folks from another ProBoards forum called the Hall of Justice, and have attracted other new users since then.

I know I never look at the other CBR boards any more and rarely even glance at the previews or other features, which I used to do almost daily when I was participating on their message boards.

Every once in awhile someone bumps a really good thread that I had no idea existed. When I get a chance I need to really dig deeper into some of the older threads on the board.

I just read this post of mine and realised I forgot that I used to enjoy some of the discussions on the old Community and other CBR Boards. We had a great thread on Seven Soldiers when that was coming out, probably the best discussion of an ongoing comic I've participated in, with lots of insight and neat observations from many different people.

My best memory of the old board was the masquerade, which was held on Halloween 2001 or 2002... (the latter, I think). For one evening, everybody registered under new identities and tried to guess who was who. Great fun!
Later we were told that it wouldn't happen again, because multiple identities are seen by publicists as an attempt to misrepresent the size of the community. Oh, well. The internet was still young in those days.
(My temporary identity was Pico della Mirandola... I was quite proud of it!)

Who knew I had it in me? Cei-U! Goo goo ga joob!

So names would change on a whim. I don't think I took part in that masquerade. More's the pity.

Can't quite recall now when I first started joining in on the conversations on the CBR boards. IIRC I stayed away from the Community Board at first, until I got to know a few people from talking to them on Classics, Music, Books, or whatever.

I started out at the old newsarama boards which got rebooted. I looked around for other forums & started posting at the old CBR boards. Then they got rebooted & now I mostly post here.

I haven't been on CBR since they made the format change a couple years back, and hadn't visited the forums for a long time before that. After the big meltdown that brought us here, the old place just wasn't the same. This is home.
