There's a sense of optimism for these crop of titles, a feeling that the X-franchise has needed for quite some time.
Over the last decade or so, Marvel has exhausted the extinction angle for mutants. No More Mutants, the Schism that formed between Cyclops and Wolverine over how to deal with this issue. They were regulated to fighting the current 'stars' of the MU. First, against the Avengers who suddenly knew more about how to handle the Phoenix Force than did the X-Men and now against the rising stars, the Inhumans.
The feelings and situations have been bleak for our mutant heroes and I think that's getting away from what made them popular and great. There's no longer a sense of family or connection between them anymore, they've all picked sides or worse, been absorbed by other teams and titles. The news surrounding this relaunch has been more uplifting, more back to the basics that worked for these heroes. The lineup of titles and creators of such look great and interesting. I'm hoping this is a sign of more promising things to come for our Merry Mutants.

I thought that Marvel Films stopped making movies dealing with X-Men and I was surprised to see them restarting with that article that wickedmountain posted from Newsarama.
This is totally caught me by surprise.

I have no real love for the franchise as a whole, but a modern interpretation of the original 60's group in All New X-Men could be interesting if properly handled. However, the current state of Marvel suggests otherwise

Meh. Nothing here that makes me want to jump back onboard the X-train. No Scott, no Emma, no go.

Meh. Nothing here that makes me want to jump back onboard the X-train. No Scott, no Emma, no go. To my way of thinking, most of the original X-Men, particularly Cyclops and Angel, are now broken beyond anybody's ability to fix, so I'm currently more interested in their younger counterparts in All-New X-Men (though even there, they couldn't leave Angel alone. Wings of fire? Why!!?) I also have little interest in Emma Frost or most of the newer characters, which to me basically means anyone created after Kitty Pryde. Just have Scarlet Witch or the Beyonder or anyone wipe the last several decades of X-Men history out of existence and bring back the "real" Angel and Beast, the classic Cockrum "new" X-Men costumes and classic villains like Unus, Mesmero and Mastermind, and I'll be happy.

I don't think any of the original characters need to be "fixed". They just need a writer that knows what to do with the years and years of development, both good and bad, and make something interesting from that. Cyclops was the perfectly boring "Boy Scout" who grew up following and never questioning his mentor and surrogate father while eventually marrying his HS sweetheart. Then she left (died, true, but left makes this work better) and he had other relationships, and when she came back, he tried to pick up where they left off, only they weren't the same people as before. Along comes Emma, who taps into something in Scott that Jean never did, and they start an adult relationship far different than the fairy-tale idealized one he had with Jean. On the Xavier front, Scott realized that Charles wasn't the perfect role model he'd always thought he was. Xavier lied, kept secrets, and used his abilities to manipulate others (all while claiming he wouldn't cross that line), and his vision, which appealed to teenage Scott, no longer agreed with the man Scott became. To me, that character progression for Scott is pretty much perfect. He stopped being the wild-eyed idealist and grew into a realist because life happened to him, as it does for most of us.

Agreed 100%!!! Scott is the only old Marvel character to have had any serious development in the past decades. There was a whole lot of material to cover regarding his change in philosophy and how he embraced Cable's views even if he had strongly opposed them in the past. Given his propensity to introspection, it can't just have been a case of "meh! I changed my mind". I would have loved to see him struggle with this dichotomy. He had just accepted the fact he had undergone a nervous breakdown when they began the big universe-changing events that eventually killed him. His recovery, too, should have deserved several issues.

I stopped reading X-books just before the turn of the century and I haven't gone back. The franchise became too much of a bloated mess and I lost all interest.
