Sorry to hear that you've lost Gaby, Ish Kabbible. I'm a real cat person myself, so I know how these little bundles of mischief can worm their way into your heart. It's never easy losing a pet, but I'm sure she gave you lots of joy, and you no doubt made her life wonderful as well. Treasure those memories.

I saw a news report here about a barrister who has recommended that the UK needs a third tier of court between the Crown Court and Magistrates’ Court. His name is Alex Chalk. Forgive my ignorance, but aren’t there already three tiers? Crown Court, County Court, and Magistrates’ Court? I can’t pretend to know the semantics, but Crown would be for the likes of murder and terrorism, County would be for the likes of personal injury claims and monetary claims, and Magistrates’ Court would be for the likes of motoring offences and minor damage offences. At best, that’s a guess, I’m not a legal expert. So, yes, I’m a tad confused about a barrister calling for three tiers of courts - because I thought we already had them. Incidentally, I did once read The Secret Barrister, a riveting book, accessible to a layman like myself. One common theme whenever justice is discussed here is that it isn’t seen as a “glamorous” thing to fund. Politicians do like to get elected talking about defence, trade, healthcare, etc. All important things. But it does often feel like justice is left behind. I mean, here in the UK, there is a backlog of court cases, some courts’ infrastructure is in decline, some cases won’t be heard for years, and it just seems like a topic the media and politicians aren’t interested in. Not trying to start a discussion about specific politicians or parties, just being as general as I can, based on a news story I thought was interesting. This sums up the six levels(three above the ones you mentioned): lawdit.co.uk/readingroom/uk-courts-explained-uk-court-system

My cat, Gaby, passed away yesterday at the age of 16. She was a wonderful roommate, loved to lay down near me at nights to watch movies and TV shows. Kept my spirits up during the Covid lockdown. Her demise was sudden, I sensed something wrong when she stopped eating or drinking and stayed hidden most of the day. I was worried about what was to become of her if she outlived me. Things tend to work itself out, maybe for the better I'll miss you Gaby. At this stage I can never have another pet. And none could ever replace you My condolences. Sixteen is a hell of a haul though.

My old boy was my world and a good brother to Reeses (who's currently on my lap napping). Keep Gaby in your heart and she'll live forever.

I have one who, if the adoption paperwork was correct, is about 16 and I was a little worried a couple of months ago, but he seems perfectly healthy and the vet gave him a clean bill of health. Still, I know it is a matter of time and sooner, rather than later. I just try to enjoy the time we have, while we have it. My little friends were a big comfort to me, after Barb's passing and they keep me entertained and on an even keel, when the world seems to spin out of control. People always talk about dogs; but, when a cat decides to share its affection with you it is pretty special and they don't do it by half measures. Of course, sometimes that includes teeth and claws, but what's a little blood among friends?

Ish Kabbible Deepest sympathies on your loss. We're approaching the one year anniversary of our dog Bear, and the loss still stings. Even though she is gone, her presence in your life will never disappear. -M

Sorry for your loss, Ish Kabbible. I know how it feels: in 2021, several of our cats passed in quick succession over a few months, one just short of turning 17, one 15 and one 18 years and change. It was quite upsetting (and then in early 2022 we lost our dog, too, but that's a whole different level of loss...)

I'm so sad to hear this Ish Kabbible, our cats are so dear to us as well and going through the loss of a loved furry companion is so hard. My deepest condolences to you and may Gaby be at peace, and also those good memories help to offset the sadness.

Thank you, each and every one of you for your kind thoughts and condolences. Household companions bring so much unconditional love but unfortunately break your hearts when they pass away Freakishly, I sometimes hear these little noises in the house, a faucet drip, a common house settling-in sound, and I immediately assume it's Gaby strolling around Who's to say it's not
