Selling your home is exhausting! I've been retired since June 1 but I don't feel like I've had a single day of retirement yet. The end appears to be in sight at last, though, and we'll be moving to a well-deserved upgrade next month. I’m an eternal renter, but I can appreciate what you posted. I’ve heard so many similar stories here: people dealing with estate agents, people having to involve solicitors, stamp duty, plus the usual bureaucracy that politicians create. It sounds tiring. But hopefully your retirement will be a good one.

If you had only accepted my generous offer of 100 Canadian dollars you could have saved yourself all this worry and anxiety.
At this point I'm about ready to accept it! This last few days has been a real mess. Miscommunication between a buyer's inspector who didn't understand their concern recommended a fix to a different issue which they misunderstood as a fix to their real issue which doesn't even need a fix and which wouldn't solve it even if it did, and would probably damage the house...

Sorry to read that. Again, I’ve heard these kind of things previously, e.g. when a family member sold a house, a surveyor screwed up something really big (misinformation), and it delayed things. Not sure how you screw up surveying, to be honest.

My computer went and had an aneurysm last night and I can't recover it. So, that gave me the opportunity to pull out Barb's old laptop and verify that I had the correct PIN number for it. I do and am using it, for the time being. I prefer a desktop, though, so computer shopping in the future.
The thing that really pisses me off is that it is only 3-4 years old and most things were stored on external hard drives, yet it claimed to have limited memory, which affected some internet features. I don't know; I tend to think that it was more to do with Windows than the hard drive; but, it doesn't really matter, when it dies. I also have my tablet.
I lost a few things that were not backed up, like some photos, and the odd minor document.

Not without major, expensive surgery. I decided to go ahead and trade up for a higher end computer, and had the cash available to do it. I figure if I am going to have to spend money, one way or another, might as well get something that will perform better.

Hope the new one gives better value.

Hope the new one gives better value. Bought a Dell Inspirion (Dude!). HUGE monitor, which is great, for my eyesight. Wireless mouse & keyboard; so, batteries are gonna be an expense I didn't have before. Made notes to remind me to power them down when not using the computer. It sucked; but, the new one is faster, Windows 11, so it is up-to-date, and 1TB of storage. Just need to re-download my media app to watch the media stored on my external hard drive. Plus, my comic book reader app.

I got my first wireless mouse about 18 months ago and the batteries I put in when I got it are still going strong (and it gets used every day). So, batteries for your wireless accesories are not going to be a big expense. Remembering to turn them off when not in use is a good habit to get into though.

Also, you can do what I do: use rechargeable batteries for my wireless accessories. Although yeah, ordinary batteries last a pretty long time, esp. if you remember to turn them off when you're not using them.

I use rechargeable batteries too, and while they need to be swapped and re-charged more often as time goes by, two sets will last for many, many years.

Post on it right now. The monitor is massive, though not as big as some I saw at Best Buy. My old computer was a Lenovo, all-in-one and I thought its monitor was bigger than necessary. Had to rearrange the computer desk (which is fairly small, as it is). Hell of a lot easier to read things (and type) than on Barb's laptop.
Feel like I am in Star Trek, though, except the computer doesn't answer in Majel Barrett's shrill voice.

We use wireless keyboards and mice exclusively at work (hundreds of them) which never get turned off. Even with that, the batteries still usually last well over a year, as Confessor observed. So you can turn them off if you want, but definitely don't beat yourself up if you forget or choose not to turn them off.

We've come to a signed sales agreement at last, so I'll be packing up to leave good old Galahad Dr in less than a week! For all the headaches, I guess I can't really complain about completing the whole thing in just over three months, based on how long I see comps sitting on the market around here. Sadly, many good comics have gone to the landfill in the moving process. I'm keeping the most meaningful vintage books, but I couldn't justify the physical effort of keeping or selling or giving away so many long boxes of 80's, 90's, and 2000's stuff that would have taken years of my life to re-read were I so inclined.
