This issue was better than last issue with the Scarecrow. I like Catwoman & this showed a side of her that wasn't evil like Batman's other villains.

This is the cover & splash page of the unpublished Joker #10 by Martin Pasko. It would have been The Joker vs the JLA.

This run is collected into a trade called The Joker: The Clown Prince of Crime. Overall it was an interesting series for it's time. I don't know if any villain had his own series before this. Marvel had Super-Villain Team Up (which featured Doom teamed with Namor, Red Skull & Magneto) at this same time. And DC did the Secret Society of Super Villains in 1976.

"The Cat and the Clown!" by Elliot Maggin,Irv Novick, & Tex Blaisdell. Actor Benny Springer & his cat Hiawatha leave the movie studio where both the Joker (in disguise as Springer) & Catwoman (in disguise as a script girl) cross paths. Catwoman knocks the Joker out & kidnaps the real Springer & his cat. The Joker is revived in his disguise as Springer. He then reveals himself as the Joker & escapes. Catwoman has both Springer & his cat & is holding them for ransom. She learns that the other Springer was the Joker in disguise & sets a trap for him to prevent Joker from messing up her plans. The Joker kills one of Catwoman's men to get the location of her hideout. Meanwhile Springer is able to escape & Batman shows up at Catwoman's hideout. But Batman is really the Joker in disguise. Then a second Joker shows up. This is Springer in disguise. The two Jokers fight. After a short fight Catwoman stops them & uses Springer's cat to ID Springer. She stuns the Joker that the cat ID's. However she is then caught in one of her own traps by Springer who has trained his cat to follow signals. He signaled the cat to go the real Joker. Back in Arkham the inmates are treated to Springer's new movie "The Cat & The Clown" but the Joker has already spliced in his own film. And this my favourite issue of the run. Irv Novick is an underappreciated artist, and he does a damn fine portrayal of Catwoman. The Joker pulls a great 'hiding in plain sight' stunt in this story. When the studio is being locked down, he dresses as a cowboy and rides out through the gate, guns blazing in the air. The guard remarks that it was just one of those trigger-happy cowboys, but he'll report anything suspicious.

I don't know if any villain had his own series before this. The Dr. Doom series in Amazing Adventures was about 8 years before this series. In the 1950s you had the Yellow Claw series, and the Sub-Mariner was at least a part-time villain in the 40s and 50s.
