dupersuper, that's quite a list. What are some post-1990 shows you don't like? Well, any reality TV, wrestling, 24 news channels, Home&Garden/DIY type shows, sports, most game shows, soap operas, afternoon talk shows in general, most of the the garbage that has taken over the "Learning" and "Discovery" channels... Sounds like my list

Is No Reservations a food show or a travel show, if you had to choose one? I'm not a fan of either types of show, but Anthony Bourdain is a master of monologue and I loved his show. Haven't really checked out the new one he does though.

I keep forgetting to get back to Vikings. Oh, yes! I saw the first season on DVD and despite the conflated time periods, it was very good!

Perhaps that's why my mad plan to create a combined-cast series called My So-Called Life Goes On never quite jelled.

From the "how did I miss this?" category... Daria is probably my favourite show of all time. I don't think it's objectively the best TV show by any stretch, but it will always be my personal fave.

Speaking of international shows, This Is England '86 and '88 are some of the best. They follow up a very good movie of the same title set in 1984. The TV show cast is made up of the same cast as the movie, there is no dip in quality. I'm wondering why the two television seasons weren't filmed as movies. There's supposed to be a final season that takes place in 1990 eventually. if you liked those you might also like en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Riding - obviously a tough watch though.

I keep forgetting to get back to Vikings. Oh, yes! I saw the first season on DVD and despite the conflated time periods, it was very good! Vikings was great for the 1st season. The 2nd one was... less good. My wife couldn't watch it (she was distressed by Ragnar's.. actions I'll say) at all. Incidently, I'd call No Reservations a travel show.. there's not generally any actual cooking, though there is lots of food involved... it's actually really pretty similar to Bizzare Foods, only with a good host

I've got the first two books somewhere, but I was kinda put off by the chapter-by-character thing when I tried to read them. Game of Thrones takes some effort to get into.. there are ALOT of characters thrown at you at once, and it's not clear who are the main ones for quite some time. It's worth it, though. I'd highly recommend reading the books before watching the show.. it's alot easier to keep things straight that way.
