dupersuper, that's quite a list. What are some post-1990 shows you don't like?

Warehouse 13 is a really fun show. I still need to see the last two or three seasons. Last thing I remember is Claudia's heart-breaking discovery in "Emily Lake".

I am astonished that nobody has really mentioned Game of Thrones yet. Probably the best TV series I have ever seen. The acting is superb and the characters unforgettable. I love this show.
Other than that I did enjoy Breaking Bad. I felt like it ended early...they could have easily added another season or two and I would have been watching. I need to catch up on Walking Dead, I started but for some reason stopped watching at some point. And I definitely need to check out True Detective soon.

I watched the first season of GoT and really enjoyed it, but when I tried to watch the second I realized I didn't remember anything from the first. I wouldn't mind watching it now that I have HBO, but I'm so far behind I'd have to binge watch it to catch up and I don't really do that with anything but Venture Bros now (currently re-watching season four w/commentary for the third time in the last week).

That show was hard for me to keep up with at first. I'm not great at remembering names, and the show has like four complete casts. But it's worth getting to know. Reading the books helped me a lot just because it gave me a second chance to learn everyone's name.

I've got the first two books somewhere, but I was kinda put off by the chapter-by-character thing when I tried to read them.

Mostly recent stuff:
the mentalist Game of thrones the walking dead Battlestar Galactica Rome
and a French show I absolutely loved: Kaamelott. Funny, intelligent, with a masterful blend of humor, drama and culture.

Speaking of international shows, This Is England '86 and '88 are some of the best. They follow up a very good movie of the same title set in 1984. The TV show cast is made up of the same cast as the movie, there is no dip in quality. I'm wondering why the two television seasons weren't filmed as movies. There's supposed to be a final season that takes place in 1990 eventually.

dupersuper, that's quite a list. What are some post-1990 shows you don't like? Well, any reality TV, wrestling, 24 news channels, Home&Garden/DIY type shows, sports, most game shows, soap operas, afternoon talk shows in general, most of the the garbage that has taken over the "Learning" and "Discovery" channels...

Funny, intelligent, with a masterful blend of humor, drama and culture. Yay... you mentioned The Mentalist. I love that show too. It's an intelligently written all-ages whodunnit. But Simon Baker is the real draw, My faves: Game of Thrones (in a class by itself at the top for ongoing shows) Walking Dead Da Vinci's Demons Penny Dreadful Spartacus (ended) The Americans Breaking Bad (ended) True Detective The Wire (ended and probably never to be equaled) Homeland (although it probably should have ended by now) American Horror Story (especially the second season) Downton Abbey Vikings a bunch of others including Rome, the Borgias, the Tudors and almost every period show (despite all of there often evident flaws)

First I've heard of Kaamelott - sounds good, will have to give it a look, thanks RR.
And thanks to dupont2005 for reminding me about This is England - been meaning to see that since I heard about the movie when it came out.
A couple other international series I like, both cop shows from Denmark: The Killing (have seen only the first season) and The Bridge (just started watching). I also want to try the political drama Borgen.
I highly recommend The Thick of It, a political show starring the guy who will be the new Doctor Who. There are a lot of great British shows out there.
My favourite Canadian show of the last couple years has been CBC's Arctic Air, which I believe has been cancelled, sad to say.
Maybe this should be a separate thread, but what shows are you (everyone) looking forward to seeing, whether recent or older? In addition to Borgen, I'm keen on seeing True Detective, though I might try to sneak in the last season of Mad Men before either of those, once I finish The Bridge.

Does anybody else watch "Wilfred"?

I really want to see Thick Of It but it wasn't on any of the streaming sites last time I checked. When it gets to DVD I'll definitely watch Penny Dreadful and I keep forgetting to get back to Vikings.
An upcoming show I'm looking forward to is Last Kingdom based on Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Series.
