Watched the new trailer for Paddington 2. Such a wonderful delight seeing a truly fun and lighthearted movie with charm, wit and humor for everyone. Looking forward to it in January!

I didn't even know this was a thing until now, but I'm excited. I grew loving Paddington and the first film was a lot of fun so I'm down for a second. |

Trailer for James Cameron's Battle Angel Alita adaptation came out today. Can't say I'm a big fan of his but I would concede he's able to deliver visually. The CGI used for the lead character's face looks a bit weird though.

Full trailer for Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom debuted today as well. That looks incredibly depressing, especially the scene with all of the dinosaurs on the cliff as the lava is approaching. I know they're not real or actually dying, but it made me kind of sad nonetheless. |

I'm looking forward to see Jurassic World too and I'm going to see it despite the flaws anyway. I'm going to be optimistic about it anyway.  |

I don't know, I thought the second one was decent but yeah I never saw the third and found Jurrasic World to be just okay. I have a certain fondness for Jurassic Park III. I think it has to do with its honesty about being a cash grab: even its characters, when they wonder how they managed to get back to chasing dinosaurs again, come to the conclusion that it's for money. There was also more character development in the third movie than the second one; I loved the way Alan and Ellie's relationship turned out. Not much tension, not much in terms of dramatic line, but it was clearly not trying to be a great movie. Being merely O.K. one seemed to be the target: you wanna see more dinosaurs? We got more dinosaurs. Bring popcorn. |

Only watch a movie once and none of the sequels? Never revisited a book in hopes of finding something new? I know for myself I dig (pardon the pun) dinosaurs and watched every/any movie/television show or Godzilla movie that I could find when growing up. Having a series of movies to browse through about those big ass bird ancestors is a true no-brainer to me. I have lots of the Discovery channel and BBC CGI Dino-documentaries as well and they all fill the inner child of me with delight and wonder with any viewing. |

In the first instance, a zoo changes every time you go there, that's not the case with re-watching a movie, even if you get more out of the experience the second or third time. As for watching a movie but none of its sequels, sure....one word... Highlander. I have seen the first Jurassic Park movie two or three times in the years since its initial release, but really, it was the special effects that were the draw for me: once I'd seen dinosaurs brought so realistically to life once, I had no interest in seeing it done again. I know for myself I dig (pardon the pun) dinosaurs and watched every/any movie/television show or Godzilla movie that I could find when growing up. Having a series of movies to browse through about those big ass bird ancestors is a true no-brainer to me. I have lots of the Discovery channel and BBC CGI Dino-documentaries as well and they all fill the inner child of me with delight and wonder with any viewing. Oh, I dig dinosaurs too, but, as I say above, the big draw of the first Jurassic Park movie for me was how lifelike the dinosaurs were. The sheer wonder of seeing these majestic and awesome creatures brought so vividly to life was amazing. Unfortunately, the film itself was basically "brain off", lowest-common-denominator, blockbuster fare -- nothing to write home about at all. I mean, the idea of a theme park gone out of control is a sound one -- even if it had been used in Westworld before -- but it was the groundbreaking special effects that enthralled me, not the story/acting/direction/script. I guess that ultimately the story wasn't strong enough to hook me. The Jurassic Park franchise is a hollow visual treat, as far as I'm concerned. |
