Do you have that one figure that stands out to you more than all the others from a given series, either for reasons of quality, for nostalgia, or for some other reason? As an example, the original Optimus Prime has always been my favorite original Transformer, not because of the character, but because the transformation was so darn kinesthetically satisfying, and because I must have played out a million stories in that trailer as a kid. I only wish I'd had the little Diaclone figures that fit into the little areas of that trailer. I had to use my imagination (which, in hindsight, wasn't such a bad thing).

Here's a few more: Klone (Blackstar)I always liked this competitor to Masters of the Universe more, as I felt the designs were better done and cooler looking, plus they did a better job of standing up on their own. But Klone was in a class all his own -- an awesome looking Blue Elf that could turn into a werewolf! I adored (and adore) this thing: John Stewart (Justice League Unlimited)So much to love about this one, from being one of the first truly well done African American superhero action figures to the amazing facial expression, to the countless subtle variants of this figure. I probably own a dozen John Stewarts, each slightly different from one another in costume, facial expression, eye color, and (of course) hair. John Stewart rocks, and these figures really did him justice (pun intended!)

All time favorite, probably out of nostalgia, is the Mego 12 inch Superman that was released around the time of the Superman movie. I remember getting one for Christmas probably in 1977 or 78 and I was so happy. Santa really came through, haha!

Ha, he is a really tan figure! The Mego 12 inch Wonder Woman figure was very tan as well, (especially the second version in the fabric suit)!
Another favorite of mine is the Super Powers Firestorm. I thought he was very detailed and I got him as my interest in action figures was waning. I still have him though and he still works. When his legs are squeezed his arms move, like he's firing away.

Wait, Blackstar? You mean the cartoon? I never knew they made toys based off of that.

Didn't Blackstar actually predate He-Man?

Two of my favourites, here: the original Denys Fisher Tom Baker Doctor Who figure from 1977, and an early Action Man from the sixties. The Tom Baker figure, one of a line that also included Leela, K9, the TARDIS, a Dalek, a Cyberman and the Giant Robot, was infamous for not resembling Baker at all. Supposedly, the Tom Baker head mould had been damaged in a fire at the factory so they substituted a Mike Gambit head mould from an abortive New Avengers line, instead. How true that is, I don't know.

Didn't Blackstar actually predate He-Man? Could be. Might be comparable to Transformers and Go-Bots, where the Go-Bots aired first, but the Transformers had a bigger impact.

Blackstar debuted Sept. 1981 on CBS. Masters of the Universe toys first appeared in 1982 and the animated series started in syndication in 1983, so yes, Blackstar predated He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Were they on sale for long I wonder? Speaking of limited figures/vehicles in a line, here's a dear favorite from 1978:

Notably the bird man I mentioned earlier, and a kind of four armed wasp man called a Meuton (I think). It seems three series' of Blackstar figures were produced between 1983 and 1985; the cartoon predated Masters of the Universe, but the toy line came later.
