I’m almost halfway through Reads. I barely remember any of this. I was thinking of something else when I said I remembered Reads.

So sorry I havent finished women yet. I keep thinking I have more spare time than I do! I have a feeling you’re gunna have a helluva time getting through Reads. Read's juxtaposition of comic-book sequences and prose pages worked much better than in Melmoth, I thought (in the sense that Melmoth was, overal, pretty sedate). The allegory of the comic-book artist who sacrifices his integrity on the altar of financial well-being was an important one. I don't know where Sim wants to place the blame, though... on the artist's lover and editors, or on his lack of self-discipline? The same thing would happen much later in Form and Void. Cerebus clearly blames Jaka for the unfortunate way things turn out, but to this reader it is clearly Cerebus himself who is at fault for not behaving like an adult... and I don't know what Sim thinks, because his interviews over the years have been inconsistent (and quite often at odds with what was shown in the story itself).

I like the text part in the first half of Reads. I actually found it kind of suspenseful wondering how bad it would get for Victor Reid.
I’m finding the text in the second half a bit of a chore at times. I’ve read two of these chapters and so far it’s a bit preachy and self indulgent.

Spent the last 2 nights sorting my Cerebus floppies. Found that I kept up better than I thought I had towards the end of the series. Missing a total 10 issues: 241, 248, 251, 252, 261, 264, 268, 276, 284 and 293. I thought I had missed more along with the final 300th issue, so quite surprised and pleased.
Might delve into a fast reading to try and catch up to where you are all at now. The good part is I checked MyComicshop.com and most issues run only $2-3 each.🤑 The bad part is ALL the issues I need are out of stock! 🤬 Another good thing is I checked and a couple of internet sites have them posted on line. So should I be unable to get the missing issues by the time we reach the ending I would be able to at least give a quick read keeping me up to date with the storyline as it ends.
Now it is a question of how fast I might make my way through the little grey pain in da buttocks adventures? I remember being in full fledged gotta have 'em/read mode up through Church and State, so it remains to be seen if this time around it captures my need to read. Suspect as an adult now the story may carry more depth, meaning and understanding for me, so it could either enhance and speed up my appreciation and enthusiasm or it may depress the hell out of me, slowing me down. Who knows?!?

Moreover, Sim's analyses of his earlier work clearly contradicts the apparent meaning of them. So either his views have changed, or he's incredibly bad at expressing his actual views.

I’m going to finish Reads today. I’m not going to say too much about the content until more people get caught up.
I decided to push on through because I was finding some of the huge text drops to be a bit tedious. But as I read more of them I was finding them more pretentious than tedious which is quite a bit easier to read.
The text in one eighty three contains a section I definitely remember. And it reminded me that I certainly did read every word in every issue of Cerebus for a very long time even though I’m not finding much of it familiar now. I’m pretty sure I haven’t read any issues of Mothers and Daughters since I first bought them and put them in the long box.

I finished Cerebus one eighty five. Whew.
Then I counted the Viktor Davis text pages in the next issue.
OH MY GOD
Maybe I won’t be finishing Reads today.

I started the text part of Cerebus one eighty six and I decided to read it all tonight and get it over with. It is tedious to the nth degree. You would think someone who claims to worship Reason so much would make more of an effort to mount an argument that isn’t solely based on Emotion and Resentment.

Now that I’m past Reads the remaining one hundred and fourteen issues should be a breeze.
