one of THE best Disney Films soundtracks. . oh some others come close ("Beauty and the Beast", or "Fantasia").. but this one is just about perfect. I probably almost agree. Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz were really on. Fantasia is hard to compare as it mostly uses older compositions, rather than its own. I think the '90s Disney films mostly had pretty great soundtracks, including Aladdin and Lion King. I watched Atlantis: The Lost Empire today, no songs but I love the Mike Mignola art and the pulpy feel of the story is great.

I watched Mulan, which I hadn't seen in many years, and recalled quite fondly. I was less impressed than my memory. Even the central song, "Reflection", seems only okay to my modern and older eyes.
What I remembered as the greatest scene of the film still really is that great though. If one scene can make a film, then Mulan is awesome.

Watched 1997's Hercules which I haven't seen in quite a few years and I find it still holds up very well.
James Woods as Hades steals every scene he is in. Love the guy.

It's not the best rendition of the myth of Hercules but I love the music and the art style and yes Woods' performance was fantastic. |

I really don't have anything against musicals ( my favorite new TV show being Crazy Ex Girlfriend) but Disney movies with songs, a huge no no for me, at least the ones post 80ies.

So low turn-out month, huh? Sorry I was part of the problem. March is usually where I start finding time to watch again. Hopefully, that will be the case! |

Actually, I just remembered that we watched Anastasia (1997) the other night as a family. Not a Disney film, but done in the Disney style. Can I count it?

I watched Pixar's The Good Dinosaur a few days ago. It was enjoyable. I think I saw the Oscar winning Inside Out in February (if not earlier) as well

I'm not that much into Tarkovsky myself, even if I appreciate the quality. But there's dozens and dozens of other great russian/eastern bloc SF movies, and so many of them are available on torrent, and much moore real SF might I add, not action flicks with a futuristic set up. |
